Humans of Kent: Sevara Bazarova, HQ Service Desk, Dubai

Humansof Kent Severa 01

I.T. to the rescue!

Had anyone told me 10 years ago that my professional path would lead me to work in the department of Technology, like my father, I would have laughed out loud and brushed it off. But today, I can’t even imagine myself working anywhere else.

Being a student in the Faculty of Linguistics in Turkmenistan, I was helping my uncle as a translator in a Chinese company when I was overheard by the Head of IT of another company in the same room. He offered me a role within the IT Service Help Desk which I had no interest in at the time, but he thought I would be perfect for. I feel grateful to him now for insisting I join his team, even if it was just a three months internship… my first experience of the world of Information Technology. Little did I know that internship would transform my whole career path and 4 years later bring me to Kent as an IT Intern in Dubai.

I am so pleased with how far I’ve come. The growth I’ve had professionally has aided in my personal life as well. I feel so much gratitude to the people I’ve met along the way who have contributed to my growth. I truly believe this career path has chosen me. It gives me such joy to help anyone that comes my way – my team, colleagues, family and friends. There’s still a lot to learn and achieve but I know I will be supported.

Kent has become my home away from home with a culture that feels like family. Words don’t do justice in describing what I feel about my team, but I will say that my team plays a huge role in my growth, learning and being my motivation to becoming a better version of myself every day. I feel proud of the work we do.

A phrase we often hear is “The moment IT starts to check – it starts working.”

Stressful situations are all too common in any workplace and it can become harder to manage our emotions under these circumstances. However, no matter what the situation is, you’re always free to choose how you react to it. Being a highly emotional person has been my biggest professional challenge, but I’ve learned to simply smile, move on and get back to work.

Being a Muslimah (a muslim woman), I am motivated to wake up every morning and be useful, help others in any way that I can and try to embody the Golden Rule – “Treat others the way you want to be treated. If you wish only the best for yourself – treat others in the best way.” I have made myself this moral commitment to the well-being of others without the expectation of anything in return just because it brings me happiness to do so.
