Humans of Kent: Claire Bullard, Summer Intern, USA

Humansof Kent Claire 01

Over the past seven weeks, I have been fortunate enough to intern for the Houston Specialist Technical Services (STS) Service Line of Kent.

During the rest of the year, I am a student at Texas A&M University, where I study marketing. I plan to graduate from Mays College of Business in 2023 with a BBA in Marketing Analytics and Consulting. I am a member of a business club by the name of Delta Sigma Pi. In my university courses and through the business club, I have gained an understanding of many business concepts; tools used in the business world as well as common practices in office settings. It was especially exciting for me to be able to then take this new knowledge and passion for business and apply it in real-world scenarios.

Throughout my time at Kent, I have gotten the opportunity to be involved in several large-scale projects and even to lead an individual project alongside my fellow summer intern, Mohammad Yawar.

I was able to assist in a bid by creating a document compiling examples of Kent's sustainability, as well as a Vision Statement summarizing Kent's commitment to this important topic. In the independent project, I acted as the Project Manager by writing a Project Charter and keeping updates on status and deadlines.

I was also fortunate enough to lead a Health and Safety meeting for those on the North America team. In my presentation, I focused on the risks of fatigue in the workplace. After gaining some experience in skilling candidates in TargetRecruit, I then created a template for CV’s for internal use. Throughout all these projects, I have been able to collaborate with and learn from people across various disciplines and geographies.

So far, I have gained some really great experience and learned a lot. I have developed a deeper understanding about what specialized technical solutions involve, commissioning, and the oil and gas industry in general. I also learned how to use several common and important tools including Target Recruit, Microsoft Teams, Salesforce, and Indeed. It was fulfilling to be able to utilize what I’ve learned in my Information Management Systems and Business Initiative courses in university when using common applications such as excel, and to see real use of business intelligence systems, similar to what I had previously learned about. Personally, I have found a new interest in learning more in the area of analytics and would like to further develop my skills in public speaking.

Overall, I believe that I have been able to make a positive impact at Kent. Through the experiences provided, I have gotten involved in a range of areas in addition to just marketing, allowing me to develop a deeper grasp on many other areas of business. I have been eager to get this kind of exposure to the industry, and I believe this could be seen in my keenness to help and produce high quality work.

I am so grateful for this opportunity and for all the training that I have been given, which I will take with me into my future studies and career.
