About the Job
Kent is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer. The successful candidate will report to the Electrical and Instrumentation Discipline Manager and will support a variety of projects within the oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors. This role requires strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, hands-on experience with power distribution systems, and demonstrated leadership in guiding engineering and design teams.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the working electrical lead (sub-lead, area lead, or project lead) for projects
- Manage assigned work effectively by prioritizing activities, overseeing execution, reporting progress, and maintaining schedule and budget.
- Establish the scope of work, prepare effort-hour estimates, and develop deliverable lists.
- Design LV, MV, and HV Single Line Diagrams, including PC&M (Protection, Control & Metering) diagrams; apply strong knowledge of relay and metering systems used in substations and e-houses.
- Prepare electrical load lists and perform electrical equipment sizing calculations (transformers, cables, NGRs, MCCs, grounding, etc.).
- Define electrical area classification and develop associated reports/schedules.
- Support fire alarm system design, including FACP interfaces with other systems.
- Provide procurement support as the Responsible Engineer (RE), including preparation of electrical equipment specifications, datasheets, requisitions, and technical bid evaluations.
- Perform electrical system studies using ETAP or SKM (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, harmonic analysis, motor starting, relay coordination, relay settings).
- Program GE and SEL relays using vendor software.
- Review and support the development of electrical layouts (substation/e-house layouts, cable tray routing, lighting, grounding, schematics, wiring diagrams, etc.).
- Review and support EHT (Electrical Heat Tracing) design and calculations.
- Supervise, mentor, coach, and support engineers and designers across project teams.
- Provide electrical BOMs and major equipment cost inputs for capital cost estimates.
- Attend project meetings, client meetings, and vendor review sessions.
- Review designs for constructability and alignment with project and client requirements.
- Conduct field visits to verify existing drawings and confirm tie-in locations.
- Collaborate with workshare teams or HVEC (High-Value Engineering Centres) to complete electrical deliverables.
- Participate in FATs and SATs.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) in Canada or eligible for registration.
- 15+ years of relevant experience in refining, petrochemical, chemical, or power generation industries.
- Knowledge of domestic and international codes and standards (CEC, CSA, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, API, NEMA).
- Experience across all project stages: Conceptual, Pre-FEED, FEED, and Detailed Engineering.
- Experience managing vendor packages (substations, e-houses, transformers, VFDs, etc.) as a Responsible Engineer (RE) considered an asset.
- Experience with high-voltage design, ETAP or SKM, lightning protection, or electrical building design is considered an asset.
- Experience performing EHT calculations using Thermon or nVent software is considered an asset.
- Strong computer skills, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Self-motivated, organized, team-oriented, and able to deliver high-quality work under pressure.
- Experience with SAGD CPF is considered an asset.
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication.
