About the job:
Kent is looking for a Senior Cost Controller to support active and upcoming energy and industrial projects. The Senior Cost Controller plays a critical role in delivering effective cost management, forecasting, and financial control across assigned projects. Working closely with the Project Manager, Engineering, Planning, and Finance teams within the Project Controls function, this role ensures accurate cost reporting, budget control, and proactive identification of risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle. This position requires strong technical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently within established Project Controls systems and governance frameworks. This position will be based out of the Calgary office, operating in a hybrid work environment.

Responsibilities:
Cost Control & Project Support
• Develop, maintain, and control project cost reports, forecasts, and budgets.
• Track project expenditures, commitments, and accruals to ensure accurate cost performance visibility.
• Support the establishment and maintenance of cost baselines in accordance with project execution plans.
• Monitor cost performance and identify variances, trends, and potential risks or opportunities.
• Provide timely cost input to project leadership to support decision-making.
Forecasting & Reporting
• Prepare monthly cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and project performance metrics.
• Support earned value analysis (EVM) and progress measurement in collaboration with Planning.
• Ensure accurate and consistent cost data is reflected across all reporting tools and systems.
• Contribute to internal and client reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
Change Management & Risk Support
• Support the tracking and evaluation of project changes, variations, and trends.
• Maintain change logs and assist with cost impact assessments.
• Support risk identification and mitigation planning from a cost perspective.
Systems, Processes & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with Kent Project Controls procedures, systems, and reporting standards.
• Maintain cost control systems in line with corporate and project requirements.
• Support audits, internal reviews, and governance processes as required.
• Interface with engineering, procurement, and project teams to ensure integrated cost control.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. Your knowledge/skills, education and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, or a related discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in Cost Control or Project Controls within construction or EPC environments.
• Strong understanding of:
o Cost control methodologies
o Forecasting and budgeting
o Earned value management (EVM)
o Change management and cost trending
• Experience supporting large-scale construction or EPC projects is preferred.
• Proficiency in cost management systems, Excel, and project reporting tools.
• Primavera P6 exposure or working knowledge is an asset.
Communication
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to clearly communicate cost performance, risks, and forecasts to project stakeholders.
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary project environments.
