FEED, Detailed Engineering & Safety Studies

Scarborough Floating Production Unit

Project Scarborough FPU
Supporting the development of the floating production unit on the Scarborough gas field development
Location: Australia
Operator & Client: Woodside Energy and McDermott International Ltd.
Duration: 2019 - ongoing
Scope: FEED, detailed engineering and safety, environmental and human factor engineering

Leveraging our global centres of excellence, the works are being carried out by our Houston offshore engineering team and Perth technical safety team.

Our Houston office delivered the FEED, detailed design and construction support engineering of the new generation semi-submersible hull, which supports a topside of approx. 30,000 tonne. The design for the semi-submersible considers and optimises hull steel weight and configuration, mooring loadings and motion dynamics. In addition, the design considers the necessary requirements to be fabricated efficiently in a SE Asian yard.

Our Perth office, with the collaboration of UK and Houston specialists, delivered the Technical & Process safety and environmental engineering services to support the FEED and EPC phases of engineering design activities.

The work covers:

  • Workshop facilitation (HAZOP, LOPA, CHAZOP, ALARP)
  • Formal safety assessments (including but not limited to QRA, FHA, NFHA, ESSA, EERA& DOS)
  • CFD modelling (Explosion & Gas Dispersion)
  • ALARP demonstration and safety case support
  • Design performance standards
  • Loss prevention (HAC, F&G Detection & Fire Protection)
  • Structural response modelling
  • Human factors engineering
  • Environmental engineering
  • Noise and vibration analysis
  • Reliability and availability modelling
