We are seeking a contingent Principal Piping Designer to join our Kent Engineering team based in Woking for a duration of 6 months.

Scope of Work:

  • Represent KENT ENERGIES with Clients, Suppliers/Vendors, and Certifying Authorities in a professional manner.
  • Provide Principal Designer input and guidance on design-related matters to ensure high-quality outcomes.
  • Ensure the competence of design personnel engaged on deliverables related to the Principal Designer’s scope. Identify any capability gaps and make recommendations to the Design Team Leader for suitable solutions such as training, coaching, or resource adjustment.
  • Define and outline the design scope of work required to execute a project or task. Provide estimates for deliverables, resource levels, and timeframes required to complete the agreed scope.
  • Provide input to project plans and schedules through coordination with the Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager.
  • Identify potential areas of concern or technical risk during the course of a project or study and propose corrective actions where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Design Team Leader to highlight opportunities for development and contribute to improvements in design practices and processes.
  • Ensure operational and maintenance considerations are incorporated into design deliverables by engaging with relevant operations and maintenance stakeholders.
  • Conduct surveys, both onshore and offshore, to collect data necessary for executing agreed work scopes.
  • Monitor and report on progress to ensure completion of deliverables within the agreed schedule and budget.
  • Plan ahead for resource requirements and advise the Lead Engineer / Design Team Leader of any anticipated changes impacting delivery.
  • Review and check design deliverables for technical quality and compliance with project standards.
  • Identify variations in scope of work and communicate these to the Lead Engineer / Project Engineer for evaluation.
  • Ensure effective control and traceability of project documentation, including check prints and IDC comment versions.
  • Confirm that all design documentation is appropriately reviewed and verified before issue.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant technical developments, standards, and legislative requirements associated with the role.
  • During surveys and site visits, liaise with Operations and Maintenance teams to confirm design requirements and identify potential areas where KENT ENERGIES can offer value-added engineering solutions.
  • Deliver cost-effective, safe, and fit-for-purpose design solutions that add value to both KENT ENERGIES and its Clients.

Key Requirements

  • HNC with > 20-25 years relevant industry experience or bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Having offshore BOSIET, MIST and medical are preferred for the role with experience of site surveys.
  • Previous demonstrable experience in detailed design and design checking using Aveva E3D and AutoCAD (including AutoCAD Plant 3D)
  • Previous experience with Point cloud software such as Recap pro and LFM is essential
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant oil and gas industry codes and standards
  • Understanding of all engineering disciplines
  • Highly competent in the use of Autodesk design products
  • Experience in managing and developing others
  • Offshore certification (Preferred)
  • Extensive experience in Piping Engineering consultancy across Pre-FEED, FEED, detailed engineering design, and EPC project phases.
  • Skilled in infrastructure and offshore design for hydrocarbons and wind farm production facilities.
  • Experienced in both brownfield and greenfield projects, with expertise in checking, master copy creation, tie-ins, interface coordination, and mothballing.
  • Applies strong knowledge of safety and quality procedures, ensuring best practices are implemented across design activities.
  • High-level competency in Plant Layout for hydrocarbon processing and chemical plants.
  • Experienced in global workshare coordination and management.
  • Operates independently with minimal guidance, delivering defined scopes and technical deliverables.
  • Well-versed in HSE principles, safety standards, and global plant layout practices (including PIP, API, GAP, NORSOK, HSE, and PSSR).
  • Knowledgeable in modularization, construction, and logistics considerations.
  • Applies understanding of fire safety regulations and compliance standards (IFC, NFPA, FM).
  • Demonstrates sound understanding of structural works and interfaces with related disciplines.
  • Strong organizational skills, including work breakdown structure definition and work pack preparation.
  • Experienced in the application of piping and equipment codes such as ASME, DIN, EN, BS, API, and NEMA.
