Kent celebrates 2 million work hours without LTI & start of commercial operations at KIPIC Al-Zour refinery

A view of the Al Zour refinery which is designed to process heavy crude

KIPIC started commercial operations of the first phase of Kuwait’s 615,000 b/d Al-Zour refinery. This is an important event for Kuwait, as the refinery provides fuel of high quality and environmental standards to meet local demand for energy whilst limiting emissions of gases polluting the environment.

The refinery has been designed to process mostly heavy crudes, including from the Lower Fars project in northeast Kuwait. It will boost the country’s middle distillate output and produce low-sulphur fuel oil, mainly for local power plants, and naphtha feedstock for petrochemical plants. This is the first phase of the refinery and will enhance the growth of the national economy.

At Kent, we are proud to have played an important role in this milestone as we developed and delivered the refinery CSU programme, including the operations readiness & assurance. Providing the full refinery documentation for operations consisting of 300,000 documents required in operating and maintaining this refinery, along with the competency assessment and operator training across the entire facility.

We are also celebrating reaching 2 million work hours without any lost time injury in KIPIC’s refinery, in parallel with the first export of the product.
