About the job:

Kent is seeking a Mechanical Commissioning Specialist to support large-scale LNG / Oil & Gas projects. This role serves as the advanced technical authority within the mechanical commissioning discipline, supporting the Commissioning Mechanical Lead and providing direct technical guidance to Lead Technicians and field execution teams. The Mechanical Commissioning Specialist is not primarily responsible for hands-on mechanical execution but is accountable for defining technical acceptance criteria, validating mechanical readiness, supporting complex troubleshooting, and ensuring compliance with project standards, HSE and OEM requirements.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Technical Authority & Support

  • Provide advanced mechanical technical support to Lead Technicians during static and dynamic commissioning.
  • Define and validate mechanical acceptance criteria in accordance with project specifications, international standards, and OEM requirements.
  • Review and approve alignment reports, vibration data, torque records, lubrication flushing results, and mechanical test documentation.
  • Evaluate mechanical readiness prior to equipment energization and startup.
  • Support mechanical root cause analysis during startup deviations and performance issues.
  • Interface directly with OEM representatives (e.g., compressor, turbine vendors) to resolve technical deviations and ensure proper commissioning methodology.
  • Review and validate vendor start-up procedures and technical documentation.

System & Completion Management

  • Act as System Technical Authority within assigned systems under direction of the Commissioning Mechanical Lead.
  • Support system walkdowns, punch verification, and mechanical completion validation.
  • Ensure mechanical commissioning activities align with the Systems Completion Plan and database requirements (Hexagon, ICAPS, etc.).
  • Validate closure of critical mechanical punch items prior to system turnover.
  • Support readiness reviews and RFSU activities.

Planning & Coordination

  • Support the Commissioning Mechanical Lead in developing commissioning strategies for rotating and static equipment.
  • Coordinate mechanical commissioning sequences with other disciplines (Process, E&I, Operations).
  • Identify resource gaps, technical risks, and mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical input for work packs, procedures, and execution planning.

Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical mentorship to Lead Technicians and mechanical execution teams.
  • Promote technical consistency and best practices across mechanical commissioning activities.
  • Support performance improvement through technical guidance and field coaching.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Education & Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline.
  • Minimum 10–15 years of progressive experience in Mechanical Commissioning within large-scale Oil & Gas or LNG projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in EPC project environments with multi-discipline coordination.

Technical Experience (Mandatory)

  • Extensive experience in commissioning rotating equipment (compressors, turbines, pumps, drivers) including dynamic startup support.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical tolerances, alignment principles, vibration monitoring, lubrication systems, and mechanical integrity requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and validating:
    • Alignment reports
    • Vibration analysis reports
    • Torque and bolting records
    • Lubrication oil flushing results
    • Mechanical test documentation
  • Proven experience supporting mechanical troubleshooting during startup and early operations.
  • Experience interfacing directly with OEM field service engineers during installation, pre-startup, and dynamic commissioning.
  • Strong knowledge of systemization philosophy and Systems Completion processes.
  • Experience validating mechanical readiness prior to energization and startup.

Commissioning & Systems Knowledge

  • Advanced understanding of:
    • Mechanical Completion processes
    • Punch management and closure validation
    • Systems Completion databases (e.g., Hexagon, ICAPS, Co-Console, WinPCS)
    • Turnover and handover procedures to Operations
  • Experience participating in RFSU and Startup Readiness Reviews.

Leadership & Technical Authority

  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and mentorship to Lead Technicians and execution teams.
  • Experience defining mechanical commissioning strategies for assigned systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability during high-pressure startup conditions.
  • Ability to evaluate technical deviations and escalate appropriately to the Commissioning Mechanical Lead.

Communication:

  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and sub‑contractors.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Strong technical judgment and decision-making capability in dynamic commissioning environments.
  • Ability to analyze complex mechanical deviations and recommend technically sound solutions under time constraints.
  • Demonstrated confidence in interfacing with OEM representatives and defending technical positions when required.
  • High level of accountability for mechanical system readiness and technical integrity.
  • Ability to lead technical discussions and coordinate cross-discipline resolution of commissioning issues.
  • Strong situational awareness during startup and high-risk operational activities.
  • Effective communication skills to translate complex mechanical concepts into clear action plans for field teams.
  • Ability to maintain performance and composure in high-pressure startup conditions.
  • Strong organizational and documentation discipline to ensure traceability and compliance.
  • Commitment to safety leadership and promotion of best practices within field teams.
