About the job:
Kent is looking for a Lead Surveyor to be based in Baytown, TX and support regional project site(s).
As known as a Party Chief is the senior member of a crew and is responsible for the well-being and safety of crew members, the completion of scheduled workload per assignment and the preservation of data quality/quantity.
The Lead Surveyor receives scheduling assignments. The specific responsibilities of the Lead Surveyor are to direct, organize, execute survey fieldwork, and document field observations according to company policies and acceptable practices. In addition, the Lead Surveyor should monitor crew performance in the field to maintain the quality of the data collected.
Skills and Responsibilities: |
Responsibilities: To prepare for fieldwork, a Lead Surveyor must – - Conduct daily tool box meetings.
- Obtain work requests from Survey Supervisor.
- Become familiar with work area locations where crew will be surveying, review travel arrangements with Supervisor and manage all safety concerns. Review with Supervisor safety concerns outside of the standing JLA.
- Inform Supervisor if survey activities to require support for permit issues and other contractor support i.e. scaffolds, test trenches, special lifts or required equipment etc.
- Supply Supervisor information to maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Ensure the Survey Crew checks in and out at control center or was proper work authorization in accordance with client procedures.
- Prepare execution plan and obtain necessary documentation to execute field survey work.
- Obtaining proper safety equipment from Safety team. If equipment not available report to Supervisor.
- Contacting survey request client to coordinate field review and execution (when necessary).
During field work, the Lead Surveyor will – - Regulate work to ensure all site safety standards, work practices, and guidelines are adhered to.
- Communicate any safety issues, regardless of the severity to Supervisor.
- Keep Supervisor informed of all movements outside of the Office.
- Receive Client Work Permit or approval to begin field survey work. Communicate Work Permit issues to Supervisor (if necessary).
- Execute field survey work & report work estimate to Supervisor.
- Operate Total Station, Laser Scanner, Auto-Level or other survey instrument provided to capture field data.
- Resolving technical issues in the field. Communicate issues to Supervisor.
After field work, the Lead Surveyor will – - Complete survey write up report and issue it to Supervisor. Work with a Survey Checker to align data with procedures.
- Assign Junior Surveyors task to download Survey data or assist with creating a report.
- Assign Junior Surveyors duties to keep the vehicles clean and prepared for the next work request.
- Having Crew report to Supervisor for extra assignments to maintain a productive crew during down times when Lead Surveyor is preparing or completing survey write up report.
- After all notes are complete let Crew review survey for completeness.
- Update Survey Work Request Program in PASS.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development. |
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: | |
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: - Diploma or College Degree in relevant technical discipline is a plus but not required.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience.
- Integrate new tools and techniques into existing workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Proven experience with Leica Geosystems survey hardware and software.
- Experience with Laser Scanning hardware and software.
- Ability to complete required BASIC and Site-Specific safety training as necessary.
- TWIC Required.
