About the job:
Kent is looking for a Lead Electrical Commissioning Technician on a multi-year project based in multiple locations (starting in North Slope, Alaska).
Skills and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of electrical commissioning technicians and trainees to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality work execution.
- Report directly to the Electrical Commissioning Manager for planning, coordination, and execution of commissioning activities.
- Communicate technical updates, status reports, and support requirements to the Electrical Commissioning Manager and project leadership.
- Solve complex problems using a combination of standard procedures and innovative solutions developed through field experience.
- Oversee setup, operation, and calibration of electrical test equipment and ensure accurate recording of test data.
- Lead commissioning of LV & MV Switchgear, GIS systems, Power Transformers, Generators, Control Panels, Protection Relays, and transfer schemes.
- Provide expertise in protection relay testing, control system logic, and electrical interlock verification.
- Interpret and validate SLDs, schematics, block diagrams, termination drawings, multi-discipline P&IDs/PFDs, and interconnection drawings.
- Conduct electrical equipment installation inspections in accordance with project check sheets and QA/QC standards.
- Supervise and perform electrical functional testing as per project procedures and ensure timely completion of all commissioning documentation.
- Always demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and maintain excellent HSE behaviors; ensure safety expectations are communicated, understood, and upheld by all team members.
- Attend all required training, including HSE and Permit to Work (PTW) certifications, maintaining compliance at all times.
- Ensure daily check sheets and test records are accurately completed and submitted.
- Lead toolbox talks, review Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and verify all personnel understand safe work procedures.
- Perform testing of LV & MV distribution boards, motor control centers (MCCs), motors, start/stop circuits, and overload protections.
- Ensure commissioning data is properly entered and tracked in PIMS or other System Completions Databases.
- Coordinate with multi-discipline teams to resolve interface issues between electrical, instrumentation, and mechanical systems.
- Support and participate in punch list resolution and final handover activities to operations.
- In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as directed by management. These tasks will remain within reasonable scope of the employee’s expertise and support the project’s operational needs.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification:
- Minimum 10+ years of electrical commissioning experience on large-scale industrial or energy projects, with at least 5 years in a lead/supervisory role.
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams performing pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with project and client standards.
- Trained and familiar with System Completions Databases (e.g., PIMS) including B and C check sheets.
- In-depth knowledge of industry best practices and procedures for electrical testing and commissioning.
- Fully trained in Incident & Injury Free (IIF) principles and proficient in PTW, MOC, JHA, and Emergency Response requirements.
- Experienced in Permit to Work (PTW) systems — authorized to sign, issue, and manage work permits; capable of leading Toolbox Talks and ensuring crew understanding.
- Proficient in interpreting Schematic and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), control schematics, and loop drawings.
- Familiarity with SCADA, DCS, or PLC-based control systems is considered an asset.
Communication:
- Excellent command of English, both oral and written.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coordinate effectively across disciplines and client teams.
- Capable of producing clear, concise technical reports and documentation.
Behavior / Core Competencies:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, and Visio.
- Fully trained in the use of electrical hand tools and operation of test equipment.
- Strong commitment to safety, teamwork, and continuous improvement.

- Knowledge of P&IDs and instrument loop diagrams.
