About the Role

Kent is looking for Gas Monitor Technicians to support a shutdown at the Kearl Project in Fort McKay, Alberta. These temporary, entry-level summer internship positions play a critical role in maintaining site safety by ensuring that all personnel have access to properly functioning iNet gas monitoring equipment. You will be part of a small on-site team responsible for the deployment, tracking, maintenance, and return of Industrial Scientific gas monitors, as well as the operation of bump testing stations and gas supply units. This role combines hands-on equipment handling with computer-based asset tracking in a fast-paced industrial environment.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Receiving rented gas monitors from Industrial Scientific
  • Ensuring all monitors are charged, bump tested, and fully operational prior to issuance
  • Maintaining and monitoring bump station units and calibration gas systems
  • Verifying iNet connectivity and ensuring equipment is reporting accurately
  • Issuing gas monitors to authorized personnel and tracking asset assignments
  • Receiving monitors back at the end of each shift and updating asset status
  • Recharging, testing, and preparing monitors for the next shift
  • Entering all transactions and movements into the asset management system
  • Producing reports on equipment status and inventory levels
  • Repackaging monitors for return

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education and experience:

Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:

  • Apprenticeship or Trade certificate or technical qualification in a related field
  • Previous experience working in a camp-based and/or mining environment on a shift rotation
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Good troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to adapt to changing field conditions
  • Strong computer proficiency
  • Ability to use basic hand tools safely and effectively
  • The ability to follow procedures and maintain detailed records

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.

  • Safety-first and accountable, understanding that every gas monitor issued is life-critical equipment and must meet strict compliance before use.
  • Detail-oriented and process-driven, ensuring all devices are accurately tested, tracked, documented, and ready for each shift.
  • Calm, reliable, and technically confident, able to troubleshoot equipment, manage systems, and perform under the fast-paced demands of a shutdown environment.
