About the job:
Kent is looking for a Field Engineer to support site execution activities at the Kearl Oil Sands project. This role represents Kent in the field and serves as the primary technical interface between Engineering, Construction, Quality, Contractors, and the Client. The Field Engineer provides real-time technical support to resolve constructability, design, and installation issues, ensuring engineering intent is correctly interpreted and executed in the field. This is a site-based, hands-on role requiring sound engineering judgment, decisiveness, and the ability to operate independently with minimal home-office support in a demanding industrial environment. This is a fly-in/fly-out project with a 14/7 shift schedule, 12-hour shifts, and camp accommodations at Wapasu.

Field Support & Technical Guidance
- Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, piping isometrics, and work packages to respond to contractor technical queries.
- Provide real-time technical support to resolve constructability, design, and installation issues.
- Support troubleshooting of piping, mechanical, structural, and equipment-related issues in the field.
- When requested, provide site information and field data to the Home Office to support engineering design development.
- Support development of small-scale field scopes as requested by the Client’s Construction Management Team (CMT).
Construction & Execution Coordination
- Work closely with the Client to support construction execution activities.
- Ensure contractor technical queries (TQs), including Requests for Information (RFIs), are addressed in a timely manner.
- Participate in field walks, as requested, to verify execution of RFI responses and develop punch items.
- Assist in verifying that work aligns with approved engineering deliverables and project requirements.
Collaboration & Communication
- Act as a liaison between Home Office Engineering and Client Construction and Quality teams.
- Participate in daily and weekly coordination meetings, providing updates on contractor queries and engineering-related matters.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.

These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, or related discipline).
- Eligible for registration with APEGA (EIT or P.Eng.), P.Eng. is not mandatory; engineering deliverables requiring sealing will be completed by the Home Office.
- 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in field engineering, construction, oil & gas, mining, or heavy industrial projects.
- Experience in oil sands mining, SAGD, or large-scale industrial projects is a strong asset.
- P.Eng. is not mandatory; engineering deliverables requiring sealing will be completed by the Home Office.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of piping systems, construction methods, and engineering drawings.
- Familiarity with applicable codes and standards (ASME B31.3, CSA, API, ABSA).
- Proficiency with tools such as Navisworks, AutoCAD, SmartPlant Review, and Microsoft Office.
Communication
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Ability to clearly communicate technical information to stakeholders.

- Able to make decisions quickly and confidently with minimal Home Office support.
