The E&I Engineer provides real-time technical support to resolve electrical constructability, design, and installation issues, ensuring engineering intent is correctly interpreted and executed in the field. This is a site-based, hands-on role requiring sound engineering judgment, decisiveness, and the ability to operate independently in a demanding brownfield operating environment.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Field Support & Technical Guidance

  • Interpret electrical engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, cable schedules, lighting layouts, grounding plans, hazardous area drawings, and work packages to respond to contractor technical queries.
  • Provide real-time technical support to resolve constructability, design, and installation issues related to power distribution systems, MCCs, switchgear, transformers, substations, heat tracing, lighting, grounding, and instrumentation interfaces.
  • Support troubleshooting of electrical systems, including power distribution, motors, VFDs, protection systems, cable tray routing, and field terminations.
  • When requested, provide site information and field data to the client to support E&I engineering design development and brownfield tie-in planning.
  • Support development of small-scale field scopes related to electrical modifications, equipment replacements, or installation work as requested by the Client’s Construction Management Team (CMT).
  • Interpret P&IDs, instrument indexes, datasheets, I/O lists, cause & effect matrices, loop diagrams, and control narratives to respond to contractor technical queries.
  • Provide real-time technical support to resolve constructability and installation issues related to field instrumentation, control valves, analyzers, junction boxes, marshaling panels, and control system interfaces.
  • Support troubleshooting of control loops, PLC/DCS interfaces, field devices, and industrial communication networks.

Construction & Execution Coordination

  • Work with multiple stakeholders to support E&I construction, tie-ins, and commissioning execution activities within an operating facility.
  • Ensure contractor technical queries (TQs), including Requests for Information (RFIs), are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Participate in field walks, as requested, to verify execution of RFI responses, confirm installation compliance, and develop punch items.
  • Assist in verifying that E&I work aligns with approved engineering deliverables, project specifications, and applicable Alberta codes and standards.
  • Support energization readiness reviews and turnover activities as required.
  • Understands the challenges of executing projects in live operating facilities (Refinery and Chemicals plant).
  • Has a strong track record in managing project budgets, schedules, risks and quality

Collaboration & Communication

  • Act as a liaison between E&I Engineering and Client Construction, Operations, and Quality teams.
  • Participate in daily and weekly coordination meetings, providing updates on contractor queries and electrical engineering-related matters.
  • Communicate technical information clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders in a live operating environment.
