About the job:
Kent is looking for a Construction Project Controls Manager to be based in Alberta, Canada. You will be responsible for leading the Project Controls function on a major construction project.
You will oversee a team of Project Cost, Planning, and Project Controls professionals and will be accountable for developing, implementing, and maintaining robust Project Controls systems, staffing plans, and procedures to ensure the successful execution of construction projects.
You will play a key leadership role in establishing Project Controls governance, driving consistency and excellence across the project site, and ensuring the project is delivered safely, on budget, and on schedule.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, develop, and manage Project Controls team, including cost engineers, planners, and analysts.
- Oversee staffing, performance management, training, and career development of the Project Controls team.
- Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the project.
Systems, Processes & Governance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain standardized Project Controls procedures, tools, and reporting systems for the project.
- Ensure alignment and compliance with corporate standards, project execution plans, and contract requirements.
- Drive consistency in cost, schedule, and progress measurement practices.
Project Execution & Oversight:
- Support construction project team in planning, scheduling, cost management, eaned value, risk analysis and invoicing throughout all project phases.
- Establish and maintain baseline budgets, forecasts, and schedules; monitor performance and identify variances.
- Lead project performance reviews, ensuring proactive identification of issues and implementation of corrective actions.
- Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely progress and financial reports, dashboards, and performance metrics.
- Ensure accurate and timely development of client invoices aligned with project progress and contractual requirements.
Risk & Change Management:
- Implement robust change management and risk tracking processes for construction activities.
- Facilitate risk assessments and mitigation planning in collaboration with project leadership.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Interface with project managers, construction management, engineering, and procurement teams to ensure integrated Project Controls execution.
- Communicate project performance and forecasts to senior leadership and clients.
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- 15 years of progressive experience in Project Controls, with at least 10 years in a leadership or management role on major construction or EPC projects.
- Proven ability to set up and manage Project Controls systems, staffing, and governance across multiple large-scale construction projects.
- Strong proficiency in Primavera P6, cost management software, and project reporting tools.
- Deep understanding of construction project execution, cost control, scheduling, earned value management (EVM), and risk management principles.
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
Behavior/ Core Competencies:
- Demonstrated ability to drive standardization, efficiency, and quality in Project Controls execution across geographically dispersed projects.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to manage teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
