About the job:

Kent is looking for a Systems Completions Manager to support the Imperial Oil – Kearl In-Pit Tailings Area 2 (ITA2) Project in Fort McKay, Alberta. This role provides overall leadership, governance, and execution oversight of commissioning activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring a safe, compliant, and efficient transition of facilities from construction through commissioning and into Operations. The Systems Completions Manager is accountable for strategy, execution, systems completion governance, contractor alignment, and staged turnover readiness.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Systems Completion & Turnover Governance

• Oversee systems completion processes including breakdown of systems and subsystems aligned with turnover strategy.

• Govern implementation and management of the Systems Completion Database (SCDB).

• Ensure contractors comply with certification, documentation, and turnover requirements.

• Lead system readiness reviews and approve progression through staged gates (MC, Ready for Commissioning, RFSU).

• Establish and monitor commissioning KPIs, readiness metrics, dashboards, and reporting.

Commissioning Strategy & Execution Leadership

• Develop, implement, and manage the overall Commissioning Strategy and Execution Plan aligned with project and client requirements.

• Lead all commissioning phases including systemization, Mechanical Completion (MC), pre-commissioning, commissioning, start-up, and final handover to Operations.

• Establish commissioning organizational structure, roles, responsibilities, and workforce planning.

• Ensure commissioning activities are aligned with project schedule, turnover milestones, and operational priorities.

• Provide leadership during static and dynamic commissioning and drive resolution of critical path issues.

• Represent commissioning in project leadership meetings and client reviews.

Interface & Contractor Management

• Lead coordination between Engineering, Procurement, Construction, QA/QC, HSE, Operations, Client CMT, and Production Project Contractors.

• Identify and mitigate commissioning risks and interface issues impacting safety or schedule.

• Provide commissioning input into construction sequencing, energization planning, SIMOPS, and start-up strategies.

• Ensure effective vendor coordination including participation in FATs, SIFTs, and site support activities.

• Drive seamless transition from Construction to Commissioning to Operations.

HSSEQ, Quality & Compliance Leadership

• Act as Commissioning Safety Leader, championing Client PSMS requirements and Kent HSSE standards.

• Ensure compliance with Alberta OH&S legislation, ABSA requirements (where applicable), CSA standards, and client specifications.

• Ensure proper implementation of work management systems including LOTO, permits, isolation control, Safety-in-Transition, and energization controls.

• Lead resolution of technical issues, deficiencies, and non-conformances.

• Review and approve commissioning reports, start-up documentation, and lessons learned.

Performance & Team Leadership

• Lead and mentor commissioning supervisors, leads, and discipline teams.

• Manage commissioning workforce planning, mobilization strategy, and rotation structure.

• Monitor commissioning productivity, cost performance, and schedule adherence.

• Apply lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project delivery.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline preferred.

• 10–15+ years progressive experience in commissioning, start-up, and systems completion within oil & gas, mining, or large-scale industrial projects.

• Demonstrated experience leading commissioning programs on major capital projects in Canada.

• Advanced knowledge of commissioning methodologies, completions systems, turnover governance, and digital certification platforms.

• Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and contractor performance.

• Computer literate in MS Word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.

Communication:

• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

• Ability to communicate effectively across disciplines, contractors, client representatives, and senior project leadership.

• Encourages two –way communication; confirms that the message has been understood and seeks feedback.

• Moderates tone, language, and content of any communication to the level of individual or group.

• Uses variety of methods to ensure open lines of communication such as monthly reports, briefing sessions and regular meetings.

• Ask questions to check that he/she has understood others.

• Persuades or influence others to gain buy in for recommendations or ideas.
