About the job:

Kent is looking for an experienced Tax Accountant based in Iraq to support our Tax Manager in administering the tax compliance of our entities in Iraq. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, strong accounting software skills and the ability to navigate the complexities of the local market. You will work closely with the finance team in Basrah, Iraq and our central finance team in Abu Dhabi, UAE to manage the companies financial operations

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Monthly compliance - Payroll tax, Social Security, Withholding tax:

• Calculate Personal Income Tax (PIT) and Social Security (SS) based on monthly payroll prepared by the Payroll team
• Ensure withholding tax (WHT) is deducted as per law from the vendor invoices and recorded in the books of account.
• Timely payment of PIT, SS & WHT to the tax authorities
• Monthly filing of returns as needed
• Record keeping – maintain accurate tax records and files, update general ledger and payroll systems
• Issue resolution – resolve discrepancies if any and address employee inquires related to PIT, SS & vendor inquiries related to WHT.
• Interact with client representative to collect WHT certificates related to WHT deducted from sales invoices.
• Reporting – maintain and regularly update compliance tracker for management review.

Audit & Compliance:

• Assist with external and GCT / social security department audits.
• Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and financial policies.
• Ensure adherence to company financial policies
• Staying informed about changes in local Iraqi tax and accounting regulations and communicating this to the greater team
• Translation of General Ledger to Arabic for tax filing purposes.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

• Part qualified / qualified Iraqi tax accountant
• Relevant third level qualification in Accounting, Finance, etc.

Communication:

• Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

• 3+ years’ experience in an Iraqi finance team with Construction / O&G industries / big 4 background preferred
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Experience with Oracle accounting system would be a plus
• Excellent mathematical skills; management experience; integrity; honesty; understanding of data privacy standards; exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Outstanding analytical and problem-solving abilities
