About the job:

Kent is seeking a Medium Voltage Technician for a Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning long-term Project in Kitimat, BC.

Your responsibilities:

• Always demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and excellent HSE behaviors and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained.
• Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSE, Permit To Work, and client training schedule.
• Ensure all team members are fully aware and understand all the projects safe working practices and adhere to them to maintain a SAFE working environment.
• Ensure to submit all Check Sheets and Records of Switching Orders executed daily.
• Understand the Switching Operations of the Siemens 69kV SF6 GIS Double Busbar Switching Procedure and operate.
• Understand the Local and Control Scheme of the Siemens Logic and Protection Relays as well as SEL Relays.
• Monitor and Record Siemens SF6 GIS Densimeters periodically.
• Understand and operate multi-stage 50MVAR Capacitor Bank with the 287kV Switchyard.
• Testing and operations of LV Switchgear, MCC’s, DB’s, ATS, and UPS
• Testing and operations of MV Switchgear and MCC
• Testing of Motors, Motor Control (Start/Stops function checks), Motor Rotation, associated Protections (UMC100), and uncoupled Motor Runs.
• Testing of Heat Trace systems and Process Electrical Heaters
• Testing of Cathodic protection circuits and equipment.
• Assist other Discipline Engineers to compile Notice of Energizations (NOE’s) to allow System/Sub-System energizations.
• Temporarily Serve as the owner and operator of the 287kV Main Intake Switchyard and subsequent Substations to follow until handed over to End User (Owner).

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Qualification/ Certification:

• Proven track record of 10-15+ years of experience on Electrical Power Systems and demonstrate an understanding of Commissioning process including:
• Interpretation of Single Line Diagrams, Schematics, Engineering datasheets, Commissioning of HV & LV Electrical power, and Control Systems.
• Interpretation and development of HV Interface Switching Orders
• Control of Work/ PTW processes during execution (plus)
• Commissioning of utility and process systems (plus)
• System Handover Management Process pre commissioning check sheet completion (plus)
