About the role:


The SMP Superintendent leads the charge in executing and coordinating all structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) work on a dynamic Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project. This key role calls for a hands-on technical expert with a strategic mindset and strong leadership abilities to keep the project on track. With a keen eye for detail, the SMP Superintendent ensures every phase meets the highest standards in quality, safety, and timeline goals—bringing together teams, tackling challenges, and driving project success from start to finish.


Your responsibilities will include:

  • Plan and schedule SMP (Structural, Mechanical, Piping) work with the project team.
  • Coordinate with engineering and procurement for timely materials, equipment, and drawings.
  • Track progress and make adjustments to keep the project on schedule.
  • Supervise SMP supervisors and workers, providing guidance and support.
  • Ensure team members are trained and certified for safe, efficient work.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, and high performance.
  • Ensure all work meets project standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Serve as the main contact between project management, engineering, procurement, and subcontractors.

About You:

  • Trade Certificate in Welding, Pipefitting, Boilermaking, or Mechanical Fitting (recognized in Australia).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering – Preferred
  • Training or qualification in Project Management – Advantageous
  • Extensive experience in SMP (Structural, Mechanical, Piping) construction for large projects (oil & gas, petrochemical, power, or heavy industry).
  • Experience with installing piping, pressure vessels, steel structures, and equipment in new and existing facilities.
  • Work in live hydrocarbon plants is highly valued.
  • Good understanding of SMP construction methods and standards.
  • Able to read engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong people management and motivational skills.
  • Planning, scheduling, and managing competing priorities effectively.
