About the position:

Kent are seeking a Senior or Principal Geotechnical Engineer to be part of our Asia Pacific Offshore Wind market and global Geotechnical team. The role will involve technically leading and managing the local sub-consultants to deliver the geotechnical scopes for Asia Pacific and Australian feasibility and concept studies, as well as being part of our global Geotechnical team to deliver Concept, FEED & Execute Offshore Wind projects in Europe.

The opportunity will enable an experienced Geotechnical engineer in the offshore area to help develop the APAC Offshore Wind market while also being involved in some of the biggest Offshore Wind projects in Europe and work within an organisation that has provided engineering to the Offshore Wind industry for over 20 years.

Your responsibilities:

In this position you will effectively deliver Offshore Wind and Energy Transition projects primarily in the Feasibility to Concept stages in APAC while being technically involved in originating, checking or reviewing on major projects in Europe. This position will also be responsible for;

  • Safety Leadership.
  • Performing all work in accordance with the Kent Quality Management and Health, Safety & Security System and within agreed time and schedule constraints.
  • Leadership of the Geotechnical component of the scopes for offshore wind studies in the APAC region (from Feasibility Licence support and associated studies, as well as pre-FID scopes e.g., concept & feasibility studies, pre-FEED and FEED) covering also the pre-start activities, on-going project management including coordination of multi-discipline teams, and interfacing with Clients and third-party teams (e.g., Kent’s wider business and subcontractors).
  • Originating, checking or reviewing Geotechnical deliverables on major Offshore Wind projects in Europe
  • Providing technical review and delivery of design of offshore support structures.
  • Work with Kents global offices (e.g., UK) to promote Kent's capability, deliver scopes of work and grow the business in APAC.
  • Mentoring junior engineers and supporting the development of the team’s capability.
  • Support with Business Development and managing local Geotechnical sub-consultants to assist with securing offshore wind projects.
  • Developing proposals, tenders and client relationships.
  • Maintaining awareness of changes in the relevant technologies, codes and installation methods.
  • Contribution to the global technical best practice by sharing knowledge and lessons learnt with the global geotechnical and structural communities. Assist in developing and improving Kent’s internal practices and guidance.
  • To review any design work carried out by third parties particularly to ensure compliance to codes and standards

Qualifications/ Skills Required

  • Degree in Geotechnical / Civil Engineering (Essential)
  • Honours Degree (Desirable)
  • Chartered status with a recognised professional body (Desirable)
  • Strong technical background in Geotechnical or Geoscience with a specific focus on the Offshore areas in Australia and Asia pacific.
  • An understanding of both technical and non-technical project drivers and constraints in the Offshore Wind Sector is required to support Kent as an informed buyer of sub-consultancy scopes, deliver project work and support business development activities.
  • Excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with clients and other internal teams within Kent.
  • Excellent report writing skills.
  • Excellent technical skills and extensive experience in Offshore Geotechnics covering site investigation and characterization, ground risk management, foundation design, soil-structure interaction and foundation installation with relevant application to ground conditions found throughout APAC.
  • Deliver and review relevant discipline calculations to support feasibility scopes of work that consider the entire offshore wind infrastructure.
  • An understanding of typical APAC soil conditions and the implications of the various foundation options that are suitable within the region.
