Qatar Petroleum SCADA & Cathodic Protection Project

QP SCADA Cath stock
SCADA network infrastructure for wellhead monitoring
Location: Qatar
Operator: Qatar Petroleum
Duration: 2013 - 2017
Scope: Engineering, procurement, construction, SCADA, cathodic protection

Engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to design, install and commission a Dedicated Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Network infrastructure for wellhead monitoring from designated stations.

The system provides centralised real time and historical wellhead data directly into Qatar Petroleum's Oilfield Operations Group. Also included in the scope of work was the installation of an Impressed Current Cathodic Protection System to prevent external corrosion damage to approximately 776 well casings across the Dukhan oilfield.

The Dukhan Oilfield is located in the western part of Qatar, and the wellheads are geographically spread over an area of 85 km (North to South) x 20 km (East to West). The onshore Dukhan complex produces crude oil, associated gas, condensate and non-associated gas

Under this scope, power will be supplied using a solar energy system which will be installed at the wells and will include battery autonomy to allow the systems to operate for a period of up to seven days without sun. The SCADA communications network will be provided via wireless Point-to-Multipoint Radios installed at the wellheads, with all information gathered on the Qatar Petroleum (QP) Network by dedicated servers at Dukhan. We were also responsible for:

  • Systems integration to Qatar Petroleum's IT network infrastructure.
  • Dedicated operator displays for critical well information.
  • Antenna infrastructure.
  • Other infrastructure services including roadways, cellar modifications and fencing
