About the job:

Kent is looking for two intermediate Process Engineers in Edmonton Alberta working in our client office

To work on a variety of projects, involved in the analysis, assessment, optioneering and design of process systems, ranging from single discipline studies to large multidiscipline projects. Working closely with our clients, you’ll be consulting with them to develop a full understanding of their project requirements, delivering cost effective and innovative solutions.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all engineering and design work performed meets quality, cost and schedule requirements
  • Ensure all design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner
  • Process Design Engineering including performing process simulations, design calculations, Process Optimization, sizing & selection of equipment, depressurization calculations and flare network studies etc.
  • Preparation of various engineering deliverables (Drawings & Documents) such as Process Flow Diagrams, P&IDs, Process Datasheets, Equipment Specifications, Heat and Mass balance, Cause & Effect Diagrams, control philosophies, shutdown philosophies, HAZOP Studies & reports, Operation & maintenance manuals etc.
  • Review of Clients tender documents, specifications, datasheets, verification of FEED design & calculations
  • Preparation & Issue of RFQ’s, evaluation of vendor’s quotations, clarifications, Technical Bid Analysis etc. and assist procurement team for procurement of equipment, materials, packages, instruments and services as required.
  • Review of vendor and subcontractor documents, drawings, datasheets, specifications and calculations to check compliance with project requirements.
  • Ensure direct, effective and timely communications of project requirements, request for actions, responses to requests, routine reporting and sharing important information to Lead Engineer and client project manager.
  • Initiate internal and external Design Change Notice to projects as required with, based on estimated manhours.
  • Be fully aware of and implement, where appropriate, the latest International and National Standards, Codes of Practice, software and requirements of ‘good engineering practice’ for all work performed.
  • Ensure adherence to Contract, Scope of Work and Design Basis Memorandum; identify variations in a timely manner, whether initiated by Client or internally. Obtain the Project Manager’s approval of direction and any impact upon the project budget or schedule, prior to implementation.
  • Participate in meetings with the Project Manager, Client and third parties, involving supervised staff as required, to communicate and clarify interfaces, requests, decisions, approvals, proposals, status, responses, etc.
  • Assist planning department to develop the deliverable lists (and accurately maintain the schedule)
  • Coordinate performance of or perform non deliverable activities as required by the project scope of work or when requested by the Project Manager, i.e., Site Visits, Calculations, Inspection Visits, Studies, Reviews, participation in meetings, etc.
  • Coordinate or perform the squad check of documents and drawings of other disciplines, reviewing all the interfaces to be coordinated.
  • Perform discipline check for all design documents.
  • Act professionally and with due diligence at all times to fully safeguard the interests of the Company in all business activities.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the management.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Engineering degree, honours or equivalent in Chemical Engineering or similar
  • 5-9 years relevant experience
  • APEGA P.Eng

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Great organizational skills with good attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Appreciation of oil and gas or related industries with some exposure to delivery of studies
  • Knowledge of tools such as HYSYS or UniSim, performing standard process engineering calculations and developing technical reports
  • Self-discipline to ensure work assignments are delivered within agreed budgets and schedules
  • Understanding of relevant safety and environmental industry regulations
