About the job:

Kent is looking for a Lead Process Commissioning Specialist to be based in Houston, TX.

You will interface with PE’s, CMT, MC, Start-Up, and Operations personnel on discipline specific (Electrical, Mechanical & Instrument) issues.

You will have frontline commissioning skills to address technically complex Mechanical Completions, Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning of Systems and Sub-Systems. The core function of this role is to set up the project with various technical documentation related to Planning, Commissioning and Startup of a Hydrogen and Ammonia Facility.

Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Reviews Subsystems, determines outstanding issues prevention completion and drives them to completion.
  • Reports progress to Completions Lead and highlights any areas that require attention.
  • Reports to the Commissioning Manager for execution management support and weekly priorities.
  • Provides technical support and daily priorities to discipline leads.
  • Communicates and interfaces with other engineering disciplines, Coordination with Pipe engineers, QA/QC and HSE team in the organization and those of client for related activities.
  • Attends/generates punch points as a part of mechanical completion activities. Confirm there are no category A or B punch list items.
  • Prepares redline drawings to accommodate changes/modifications during various stage of commissioning.
  • Monitors work permit issuances and checks strict implementation of all safety requirements during testing & pre-commissioning works.
  • Reviews commissioning Mechanical and Piping Package and check the limit of test packs.
  • Prepares input to relevant As-built documents.
  • Confirms all valves are set to the pre- test position shown in the system P&ID limits and isolation hand valves have been set in positions specified by the checklist prior to the test.
  • Verifies all instruments have been installed, tested and connected and all necessary blinds have been installed as per isolation plan. Confirms all spectacle blinds and temporary commissioning spades are in the pre-test position shown in the system P&ID limits.
  • Ensures direction and location of check valves do not interfere with pressuring or depressuring the system.
  • Performs line walk and final inspection in preparation for testing.
  • Executes and inspects on gross air leak testing, Helium and LN2 leak testing.
  • Identifies restrains on the progress of pre-commissioning work to provide timely resolution and/or to minimize disruption.
  • Reviews mechanical completion packages. Prepares pre-commissioning and commissioning schedules as per system priority based on commissioning matrix.
  • Performs catalyst loading for the vessels with complete safety precautions and safe practices, level to level inspection for ceramic balls, catalyst and final box up with vendor and client.
  • Performs early punch listing on equipment and associated pipelines prior to pre-commissioning of each system to affect minimal rework later in the project like pre-hydro punching.
  • Properly installs all missing plant items as reflected on punch lists.
  • Conducts tightness test on each line system and verify the occurrence of leaks.
  • Ensures isolation and purging according to the safety procedure in case that system, facility or unit is subjected for maintenance or repairs.
  • Makes daily planning to meet the commissioning time schedule. Prepares progress reports on all commissioning activities.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Degree / Diploma in Process Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant and transferable Project/Engineering/Commissioning experience. Maintenance experience will also be considered.
  • Focused on Blue fuels (Hydrogen and Ammonia) as well as CO2 Capture technologies.

Communication:

  • Communicates clearly and concisely, encouraging two-way communication and confirms that the message has been understood and seeks feedback.
  • Moderates tone, language, and content of communication to audience.
  • Uses variety of methods to ensure open lines of communication such as monthly reports, briefing sessions and regular meetings.
  • Ask questions to check for understanding.
  • Listen attentively and persuades or influence others to gain buy in for recommendations or ideas.

  • In-depth knowledge of Completions / Commissioning Systems.
