About the job:
Kent is looking for a PLC Programming in Calgary alberta on a contract basis
The successful candidate will report to E&I Discipline Manager and will be assigned to various projects associated with the Oil, Gas and Petrochemicals industry as directed by the Project Management group.

The candidate will possess a solid understanding of I&C design principles complemented by practical working experience within Oil and Gas processing facilities. The candidate is required to be a well-organized and effective communicator. The candidate will be able to work independently, lead a team of professionals (engineers and designers) and be effective when working in a team environment.
Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Programming of PLC, DCS and SIS systems (i.e. Honeywell and Allan Bradley)
  • Accountable for stewarding PLC automation scope for vendor packages, tracking weekly updates, following action plans
  • Review PLC-related ITP, FAT procedures, check sheets, programs, and test reports issued by the vendor
  • Handle/coordinate test interface between PLC and DCS – leverage the remote PLC test bench to set up the serial interface testing with the DCS
  • Attend vendor shop FATs for work related to PLC cabinet/automation verification work
  • Travel to relevant sites (module yard, vendor office, project site) for PLC automation support
  • Coordinate with the site automation team to assign network IP addresses
  • Review serial interface report, software list, E&I construction work packages issued by the EPC
  • Review change request justification related to vendor packages, PLC commissioning support
  • Review contract terms relating to the PLC automation scope for the commissioning lump sum contract
  • Manage vendor punch items, coordinating with the commissioning team for on-site resolution
  • Apply systems completion lessons learned from previous projects
  • Support commissioning to review all PLC test documentation, records, as-builts and related Commissioning and Handover documentation is completed correctly; identify and manage PLC resource needs, tools, test equipment, and spares; review lump sum contractor PLC personnel competencies and work standards are maintained in the team and any deficiencies are addressed; assist in resolution of systems completion related issues
  • Work closely with the site commissioning team to properly hand over the completed PLC program to the site maintenance team – download the latest PLC configuration files into the site database to be distributed to the EMIT programming laptops


In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • 10+years of experience with PLC programming, MCC relay, switchgear, cabinet wiring, commissioning, testing, software version control
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
  • Strong understanding of work planning, scheduling and tracking
  • Demonstrated ability to form close working relationships and a proven team player.
  • Ability to work in harsh environments, in stressful situations, and flexible work hours
  • Proficient in software programs - MS Office suite, Allen Bradley PLC / MCC / VFD / switchgear / UPS configuration
  • Good working knowledge of plant ICSS Delta V; PLC and serial communications Modbus over Ethernet; fiber optic networks
  • Familiar with the Kearl site automation design/maintenance philosophies; Kearl cybersecurity / ICSR requirements; site work authorization and permits; using system completions database (SCDB) will be an asset.


Communication:
  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and sub-contractors.
