About the job:
Kent is looking for a Piping Department Manager to be based in Houston, TX.
You will report to the Engineering Manager and you will have primary responsibility for the supervision and administration of all personnel and assignment of personnel for Kent U.S. projects.
Key functions include estimating and forecasting department workload, training, maintenance of work process procedures, job schedules, recruiting and hiring, maintaining the technical expertise required by the department, and implementing personnel performance evaluations. The nature of the work involves greenfield and brownfield projects in Downstream Refining & Petrochemicals. The types of projects executed by the department varies from small single-discipline projects to large scale multi-year and multi-discipline projects.
Skills and Responsibilities: |
Responsibilities: - Assignment, scheduling and expediting work of the Piping department.
- Responsible for the quality, technical adequacy, and satisfactory, on-schedule completion of all work produced by the Piping department personnel assigned to projects.
- Provide guidance, direction and assistance for the resolution of engineering and design problems.
- Guide staff in skill set and career development, conduct personnel reviews, and direct day to day activities.
- Review scope definitions and prepare estimates and forecast as required.
- Develop and implement company policies, standards and procedures for engineering and design performed in the department.
- Direct, review and approve designs and changes in design.
- Recruit employees, training and mentoring of engineers and designers.
- Participate in proposal meetings and other meetings / committees as appropriate.
- Develop, organize and maintain engineering documentation.
- Perform project audits on Piping activities to ensure a quality product and compliance with project and Kent Management Systems (KMS) procedures.
- Contribute to a team environment by accomplishing related results in a cooperative and supportive manner.
- Work autonomously without direct supervision.
- Capable of developing all classes of cost estimates from Conceptual to Detailed.
- Capable of performing hands on project work at any level.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development. |
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: | |
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: - Twenty plus years of design/discipline lead experience plus additional years as an active department manager.
- Demonstrated experience in Downstream Refining/Petrochemical facilities. Tailings experience a definite asset.
- Demonstrated experience leading large teams.
- Demonstrated experience using various layout and modelling tools as a hands-on designer/engineer.
- Demonstrated experience as a Sr. Checker.
- Ability to manage change and write Project Change Notices.
- An ability to adapt to new tools and programs required for estimating, planning and tracking project personnel and hours.
- Experience working with other disciplines understanding their interface requirements.
- Experience working with overseas teams in support of U.S. projects (Global Engineering Centers).
