About the job:

Kent is looking for an Onshore Pipelines Engineering Manager who will be responsible for managing the production of engineering deliverables on feasibility, concept, FEED, detailed design, or EPC projects. This position will predominately be onshore focused; however, it may be beneficial to have offshore/subsea experience to support consultancy work. You will form part of a new Pipelines Delivery team to work closely and collaboratively with Kent’s existing Subsea and Pipelines Centre of Excellence to deliver and execute onshore and offshore pipeline projects.


This is part of a strategic growth drive to develop and grow our Front End and General Engineering capability in the UK. We are seeking a high caliber person for this key Engineering role that has talent, enthusiasm, and drive to influence and be part of our exciting expansion plan. The UK Engineering group will support a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in Low Carbon / Energy Transition (CCUS, Green Hydrogen, Blue Hydrogen, Offshore Wind, Waste to X, Emissions Reduction) as well as responsibly developing traditional international energy projects. Being confidently hands on particularly as we grow, collaborative (including international workshare and teamworking) and committed to a long-term career within a high performing and close team are some of the key qualities we are seeking. We operate a hybrid working model with a mix of office and home working, for our team to develop an effective team dynamic within Engineering and Consulting.

Skills & Responsibilities:

  • Identify capability gaps and support the development and recruitment of the new delivery team to support with growth plans for remainder of 2024.
  • Can be technically responsible for all onshore pipeline engineering work and allocating, supervising and directing preparation of project deliverables. Subject to project size, will delegate some level of supervision and specific checking activities to appropriate competent personnel.
  • Capable of formulating resolutions and supervision of technically challenging and/or high profile issues, with support from Consultant Pipeline Engineer/ Lead Pipeline Engineer or Project Engineering Manager, and effectively communicating with Clients and Senior Management.
  • Reviews the ITB (Invitation to Bid) documents submitted in the proposals stage, prepares resource hour estimates and provides input to project execution plan.
  • Supervises, reviews and checks the pipeline activities including: Philosophies, Specifications, Routing Studies, Mechanical Design, Material Selection, Corrosion Protection, Stress Analysis, Layouts, Drawings, Datasheets and Technical Requisitions & Bid Evaluations. Identifies and resolves discrepancies and divergences from original proposal/ contract by raising technical queries with projects / client.
  • Identifies a clear scope of work and supervises preparation of the Technical Document Register (TDR). Responsible for planning/scheduling the pipeline engineering activities and person resources. Quantifies the total number of engineering deliverables, resource-hour allocation and format of delivery, and other requirements for execution of the work. Provides necessary regular project controls/ reporting input to Project Management.
  • Provides support to Procurement including long lead items enquiry: prepares Technical Requisitions, reviews vendor documentation and provides Technical Bid Evaluation support to ensure design conformance.
  • Consults Quality Assurance with any quality issues ensuring compliance with Kent’s ISO Quality procedures, Project Quality Plan and Design Integrity processes and procedures. Co-ordinates Internal and client audit requests and facilitates audit procedures of engineering systems within the department. Complying with other Kent accredited frameworks such as ISO 14001.
  • Responsible for the successful completion of specific scope on schedule and within resource hour and budget estimates.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Masters Degree in Engineering (typically Mechanical or Civil), Chartered Status and significant related experience working for Engineering/Client organisations in the Oil and Gas Industry.
  • Exposure to Consultancy, FEED/ Detailed Design and EPC projects.
  • Strong experience of working for engineering / client organisations in the onshore oil and gas industry.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of onshore pipeline engineering, and of regulatory frameworks, codes, and standards.
  • Experience in onshore pipeline routing, facilities design, safety assessments, construction methodology and logistics planning, onshore crossing design and cost estimates.
  • Experience in design and analysis of CO2 and H2 onshore pipelines in the Low Carbon sector is considered advantageous.
  • Additional Offshore/ Subsea experience sector is considered advantageous.
  • Knowledge of Safety and Quality procedures.
