About the job:
Kent is looking for a Mechanical Commissioning Lead (Onshore/Offshore) to be based in Houston with potential Offshore site travel during execution phase. The role of the Commissioning Mechanical Engineer/Lead is to lead a team of Mechanical Commissioning Leads and Technicians in preparation and execution commissioning activities in order to deliver facilities to Operations in accordance with the project technical standards and schedule. The Commissioning Mechanical Lead is to provide commissioning support during start-up activities up to project completion.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Planning Phase Responsibilities:
  • Provide input to set priorities for sub-system turnover that considers the facility’s design and would allow for safe commissioning of sub-systems / systems while the construction contractor completes remaining systems.
  • Develop mechanical commissioning procedures and provide mechanical commissioning activities within other commissioning procedures.
  • Provide input for mechanical / piping temporaries that allows for safe and efficient module installation offshore and hook-up.
  • Develop temporary equipment strategy and plan to support major onshore dynamic commissioning activities of a modular designed facility.
  • Review project documentation to assess efficiency of current design for leak testing at the fabrication site and offshore.
  • Develop leak testing strategy and plan.
  • Prepare 3rd Party Scopes of Work for flushing / chemical cleaning and leak testing contractors.
  • Work with procurement team to initiate vendor support work releases for commissioning support during execution.
  • Represent team in key meetings with other project teams (Operations, Engineering, Construction, etc.).
  • Support project Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) including reviewing procedures, assigning resources, periodically attending FAT, and adjusting commissioning scope to integrate FAT successes and deficiencies.
  • Review engineering design and provide comments toward “commissionability” at fabrication site and during offshore HUC phase.
  • Assist with the development of a level 3/4 commissioning schedule as design becomes more mature.
  • Assist with implementation of a job card / work pack system for use during commissioning execution. Co-author certain job cards with other team engineers.
  • Reviews recommended commissioning spares from Vendors and provide input to overall spares procurement.
  • Provide input for development of commissioning consumables.
  • Work with Commissioning Certification Lead to review and approve checksheet assignment for tagged equipment.

Execution Phase:
  • Lead the pre-commissioning / commissioning activities for the mechanical discipline at both onshore and offshore locations.
  • Ensure safety critical mechanical equipment meets the performance standards defined in project standard of performance.
  • Take leadership role during execution of system commissioning procedures which are more mechanical discipline oriented.
  • Assure rigorous implementation of approved Commissioning Procedures, Method Statements and System Dynamic Commissioning Procedures.
  • Attend mechanical completion and system handover joint walk downs as required.
  • Attend daily PTW / SIMOPS meeting and provide input / comments as required.
  • Provide daily feedback as to commissioning status for his / her respective discipline and generate weekly activity report along with a 2 week / 4 week look ahead.
  • Facilitate meetings as required and represent the commissioning team at other project team meetings.
  • Manage and interpret completions progress while maintaining a forward-thinking approach to planning activities over the long term.
  • Manage closeout of punch list items for mechanical discipline.
  • Review and progress material deficiencies that affect safe and efficient commissioning activities.
  • Work closely with the Vendor coordinator to schedule vendor requirements for commissioning tasks.
  • Progress and maintain job carding system and reporting.
  • Ensure that preservation and maintenance on electrical equipment is correctly identified and is being carried out in accordance with Preservation Procedure.
  • Be familiar with the Project Management of Change Procedure and Site Change Control and Technical Queries procedure.
  • Ensure all relevant As-Built Drawings / Documents are marked up by Mechanical commissioning team as defined in project As-Built Procedure
  • Individual will work in a team environment and must be able to quickly understand the roles of those in the interfacing teams, develop sound relationships, and work effectively to assure that the commissioning scope is executed in a safe and efficient manner.


In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

  • Strong understanding of Project execution, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning & Completion practices.
  • Demonstrated management and organizational ability for large teams with strong people skills.
  • Strong understanding of work planning, scheduling and tracking.
  • Exposure to client practices, processes, and expectations with respect to Systems Completion, Preservation, Commissioning and Start Up operations.
