About the job:

To be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the instruments and systems that measure, control, and monitor industrial processes.

To ensure the precision, efficiency, and safety of operations across various industries. To support all phases of the projects to suit the needs and requirements of Kent as well as our client.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and contribute to the project to meet its safety targets and advise safety improvements
  • Assist the team leader and be a team player, collaborate, and add value to the assigned project
  • Coordinate/Communicate with other disciplines, Contractor, and Client
  • Assist and support project leads, managers, and directors to manage all aspects of projects from design to implementation and handover
  • Review Contractor’s deliverables as required and ensure all Contractor’s engineering and design work performed meets contractual obligations, quality, cost, and schedule requirements
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work is safe and carried out in a safe manner
  • Ensure all Contractor’s design work conforms to the codes and standards used by the Client or to agreed industry standards
  • If required, perform designing/engineering work/deliverables as part of the team
  • Coordinate with the project team and clients to develop/finalise design specifications to meet their project needs with the ability to interpret Client specifications
  • Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system
  • Identify issues and problems, develop appropriate solutions, and advise Client, and ask for assistance when required
  • If required, assist, and support and help in developing junior personnel within the team
  • Ability to identify and resolve discrepancies and divergences from original proposal / contract by raising technical queries with projects / client
  • Keep up to date with the latest developments and technical innovations in Instrumentation & Controls Engineering
  • If required, provide support during fabrication, site construction, and commissioning activities
  • Working knowledge and ability to produce Instrumentation & Control deliverables such as Index & IO List, Datasheets, Specifications, Requisitions, Installation and Hookup Drawings, P&IDs, Loop Drawings, Wiring Diagrams, Cable Schedules, Instrument Location Layouts, System Block Diagram, etc.
  • Working knowledge and ability to produce Instrumentation Calculation/Selection, such as Control Valves, Flowmeters, Thermowells, Cables
  • Working knowledge and ability to produce deliverables for Control Systems like PLCs, DCS, ESD, F&G, MMS, and prepare engineering documents like IO List, Logic Diagrams, Loop Drawings, C&E diagrams, Narratives.
  • Review and contribute to all drafting work for projects using AutoCAD…etc.
  • Monitoring and reporting the professional man hours and assessing the progress and quality of civil/structural work
  • As required, participate in site surveys, review Contractor’s site survey reports, and ensure it is as per actual site conditions
  • Perform Contractors and/or Vendors Technical Bid Evaluations, as required.
  • Being able to work with multiple and concurrently small and medium projects
  • Working knowledge of software’s like Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI), AVEVA and AutoCAD
  • Working knowledge (design/implementation) of Communication Networks is a plus
  • Competent use of relevant software such as MS Office Suite
  • Preparation and review of discipline deliverables including drawings, specifications, and datasheets
  • Calculations for: control valves, PSVs, flow meters and thermo wells
  • Control system specification and system architectures
  • Review vendor documents and quotations for compliance with project requirements
  • Assist with cost and manpower estimates
  • Enter instrument database content per P&IDs
  • P. Eng. sealing of I&C deliverables

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • B. Tech/B.E. OR Master degree - Instrumentation
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer in Canada
  • At least 6 years of basic and detail engineering experience in Upstream Oil & Gas, Refinery, & Petrochemical industry

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
