About the Role
Kent is seeking experienced Instrumentation Designers to join our team in Deer Park, TX. These roles offer the opportunity to contribute to major projects as part of a collaborative, high-performing project team.
Skills and Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
• Develop instrument design deliverables including instrument index, I/O lists, cable schedules, and loop diagrams.
• Prepare instrument installation drawings, wiring diagrams, and junction box layouts.
• Perform site walkdowns, P&ID markups, and instrument location verification.
• Create instrument data sheets, hookup drawings, and panel layouts.
• Review and integrate vendor data packages into project deliverables.
• Perform instrument material takeoffs (MTOs) and develop bills of materials.
• Support construction and commissioning teams with redlines and as-built updates.
• Interface with other disciplines (electrical, piping, mechanical, and process) to ensure design alignment.
• Participate in design reviews, client meetings, and vendor coordination sessions.
• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior designers and ensure project quality standards are met.
• Review and check design deliverables for compliance with applicable codes and client specifications.
• Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/INtools), AutoCAD, or MicroStation to prepare and revise drawings.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualifications/Training/Certification:
• 8–15 years of relevant experience in instrumentation design for Oil & Gas or Petrochemical facilities.
• Proficiency with SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation/INtools), AutoCAD, and/or MicroStation.
• Familiarity with DCS/PLC systems, I/O loading, and loop checking.
• Strong understanding of applicable codes and standards (NEC, ISA, PIP, NEMA, UL, IEC).
• Experience with EPC project execution (FEED through Construction and Commissioning).
• Knowledge of field construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
• Excellent problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently or lead small design teams.
Communication
• Excellent command of the English language in both written and verbal communication.
• Strong ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams.
