About the job:
Your role as Lead Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC ) Design and Drafting Technologist is to prepare engineering designs, drawings and related technical information, such as building information models, using Computer-aided Design software, in multidisciplinary engineering teams or in support of HVAC engineers.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include:
    • HVAC designer using computer-aided design and drafting (CADD) software
    • Lead and Supervision of other drafting technologists
    • Lead in the development and maintenance of HVAC CAD best practices
Perform:
    • Develop and prepare HVAC engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data
    • Create building information models, using computer software, to provide digital representations of physical and functional aspects of buildings and other engineering projects
    • Operate computer-assisted design (CAD) and drafting workstations
    • Develop and prepare design sketches
    • Complete documentation packages and produce drawing sets
    • Check and verify design drawings to conform to specifications and design data
    • Write technical reports
    • Prepare tender documents
    • Prepare construction specifications, costs, and material estimates
    • Supervise and train other technologists, technicians, and drafters.
    • Communicating innovative ideas for new functionality develop and maintain Engineering processes in CAD.
    • Manage design automation software projects
    • Work with internal / external customers, information technology, on a global basis in maintaining and developing CAD Design Automation Software
    • Lead or support the development and maintenance of mechanical design guidelines and CAD best practices


In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
    • Experience in various CADD platforms (AVEVA 3D, MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit) with minimal supervision
    • Completion of a one- to two-year college program in drafting
      or
      completion of a three- to four-year apprenticeship program
      or
      four to five years of related experience plus completion of college or industry courses in drafting.
    • Certification in engineering design and drafting technology or in a related field through provincial associations of engineering/applied science technologists and technicians would be an asset.
    • A minimum 5 years of supervised work experience in this field.
    • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role of other HVAC drafting technologists


Communication:
  • Mobility is possible to support process, piping, civil, mechanical, electrical or other engineering design technologies.
    • Must be fluent in written and verbal English.


Behavior/ Core Competencies:
  • Knowledgeable & resourceful in knowing applicable product codes and standards would be an asset.
