Kent is looking for a Head of Department – Electrical Engineering to deliver high-quality engineering work in line with project standards and schedules.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Primary Duties:
- Allocate appropriate discipline resources for the execution of proposals, Concept Studies (DBSPs), FEED, FEED Verifications and detailed engineering on projects.
- Prepare verbal or written reports as required, stating the current workload in the group and whether it will meet set targets. If not, give the reasons why not and list the steps taken, or which need to be taken, to get back on target.
- Make sure that all the information needed by engineers to perform their work is available before they need it so that work progresses at a smooth and steady pace, on time and on target.
- Provide assessments for the Engineering, on the performance of the various engineers/designers.
- Ensure that any necessary reference material is readily available to engineers whether it be a National or Client Standard, Procedure, or recognized Code of Practice. Also, ensure that the most used vendor literature is available.
- Allocate work packages to suitable engineers, monitor progress against the schedule, resolve queries and generally expedite the progress of the design.
- Liaise with the relevant Engineering with respect to resources and equipment requirements needed for the discipline to complete the work.
- Ensure all engineering work meets technical standards, project requirements, and codes.
- Review and approve key engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and specifications.
- Coordinate multi-discipline engineering activities.
Leadership & Management:
- Lead, mentor, and managing all engineers within the discipline.
- Define department goals, priorities, and resource allocation.
- Promote teamwork, knowledge sharing, and professional development.
Project Coordination & Support:
- Work closely with project managers to ensure timely delivery of engineering outputs.
- Identify technical risks and provide solutions.
- Support procurement by reviewing technical specifications for materials and equipment.
Quality, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to quality, safety, and regulatory standards across all disciplines.
- Participate in audits, design reviews, and inspections.
- Strategic Planning & Reporting:
- Develop department strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Prepare reports on engineering performance, resource utilization, and project progress.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree of Engineering in related field with minimum of +20 years’ experience.
- Experience on Concept Studies (DBSPs) and FEEDs.
- Experience with Gas Oil Separation Plants (GOPSs).
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
Behavior/ Core Competencies:
- Ability to oversee and direct engineering operations across consultancy, FEED, detailed design, and EPC projects
- Leading and approving technical reviews and validations across the department
- Strategic and high-level decision-making to ensure alignment with departmental and organizational goals
- Proficiency in engineering tools and ability to evaluate emerging technologies
- Managing and evaluating technical solutions, reports, and project performance
- Providing leadership, mentorship, and technical guidance to senior engineers and team members
- Representing the department in discussions, negotiations, and coordination with stakeholders and clients
- Supervising the preparation and approval of technical and administrative reports, proposals, and plans
- Developing strategies and policies to enhance the efficiency and quality of the department’s performance
