Role scope

Kent is seeking a highly skilled and experienced ICSS Functional Test Procedure Development Engineer to play a pivotal role within our dynamic Engineering and Projects Department, based in Qatar. This critical position will be at the forefront of ensuring the integrity and reliability of our Integrated Control and Safety Systems (ICSS) through the development of comprehensive and meticulously detailed functional test procedures. The successful candidate will possess a deep-seated understanding of the intricate architecture of modern ICSS, a strong commitment to safety principles, a thorough knowledge of relevant international and industry standards, and substantial hands-on experience in the testing and commissioning of complex automation systems within the oil and gas domain. The ICSS Functional Test Procedure Development Engineer will be an integral member of multidisciplinary project teams, collaborating closely with ICSS design engineers, project managers, operations personnel, and external vendors to guarantee the seamless integration, rigorous testing, and successful commissioning of our integrated control and safety assets, ultimately contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our facilities.

Details / responsibilities

  1. Design, development, and documentation of comprehensive functional test procedures for various ICSS components, including but not limited to IPCS, SIS, SIF, GDS, PECS Logic/interlocks, and complex loops, PECS SIS, PECS SIF, ESD Logic, adhering to relevant industry standards.
  2. Conduct thorough reviews and in-depth analysis of project specifications, detailed ICSS architecture diagrams, comprehensive control system philosophies, critical cause and effect matrices, intricate loop diagrams, detailed instrument datasheets, and comprehensive vendor documentation. This process is crucial to gain a complete understanding of the intended system functionality, operational requirements, and specific testing mandates for each project.
  3. Proactively identify and define the essential functional tests that are necessary to rigorously verify the correct and reliable operation of complex control logic, critical safety interlocks, accurate alarm functions, seamless communication integrity across the ICSS network, and the overall integrated performance of the entire system under various operational scenarios.
  4. Meticulously ensure that all developed functional test procedures are in strict compliance with all relevant international and industry standards as well as adhering to stringent company policies, robust safety regulations, and established best practices within the oil and gas sector.
  5. Foster strong and collaborative working relationships with ICSS design engineers, proactive project managers, and other key stakeholders within the project teams. This close collaboration is essential for effectively clarifying design intent, proactively addressing any technical queries that may arise, and ultimately ensuring the inherent testability of the designed ICSS from the outset of the project lifecycle.
  6. Actively participate in critical Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies and thorough Safety Integrity Level (SIL) verification workshops. This engagement allows for the early identification and seamless incorporation of specific testing requirements related to safety-critical functions directly into the functional test procedures, ensuring the highest levels of safety integrity.
  7. Define and document clear, unambiguous, and measurable acceptance criteria for each individual test step outlined in the functional test procedures. These objective criteria are essential for enabling a consistent and reliable evaluation of the test results, ultimately facilitating a clear and auditable determination of system acceptance.
  8. Prepare comprehensive and well-organized test documentation throughout the testing lifecycle. This includes the development of detailed test plans outlining the testing strategy, meticulously documenting test reports capturing the results of each test, and diligently managing deviation reports to track and resolve any identified discrepancies or non-conformances. Furthermore, ensure the proper completion and sign-off of all relevant test documentation upon successful completion.
  9. Provide expert technical support and guidance to the testing and commissioning teams during the critical execution phases of functional tests, both in the controlled environment of the workshop during Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on the actual plant site during Site Acceptance Testing (SAT). This support ensures the accurate and efficient execution of the developed procedures.
  10. Conduct a thorough and systematic analysis of the recorded test results to identify any anomalies, discrepancies, or failures. Subsequently, work collaboratively with the relevant engineering and commissioning teams to effectively troubleshoot the root causes of these issues and implement appropriate corrective actions to ensure system integrity and performance.
  11. Take ownership of the continuous improvement process by regularly reviewing and updating existing functional test procedures based on valuable lessons learned during project execution, any modifications or upgrades to the equipment or systems, and any evolving changes in relevant industry standards or regulatory requirements. This ensures that all testing documentation remains accurate, up-to-date, and highly effective.
  12. Actively contribute to the ongoing development, refinement, and implementation of internal ICSS testing standards, comprehensive guidelines, and industry best practices within the organization. This proactive involvement helps to elevate the overall quality and effectiveness of our testing processes.
  13. Participate in and often lead Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) conducted at vendor facilities. This crucial step involves witnessing and rigorously verifying the functionality, performance, and compliance of critical ICSS components and integrated systems prior to their shipment to the site, ensuring that they meet our stringent requirements.
  14. Provide valuable training, guidance, and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians on the fundamental principles of ICSS functional testing methodologies, the proper application of developed test procedures, and best practices in the field.
