About the job:
The SMP Supervisor is responsible for overseeing construction packages of structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) activities on an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) project. This role requires strong technical expertise in SMP disciplines, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to ensure adherence to project schedules, quality standards, and safety regulations.
Your responsibilities: |
Project Planning and Execution: - Work to detailed work plans and schedules for SMP activities in coordination with the Superintendent and Construction Manager.
- Understanding project schedule requirements
- Allocate daily tasks to all leading hands/direct reports, keeping close tabs on their productivity, efficiency, attitude and general work standards, whilst adhering to HSSEQ policies and meeting project deadlines.
Team Management: - Daily Supervision of a team of SMP craft workers, where you will provide clear instructions, guidance, and support.
- Ensure that the team is adequately trained and possesses the required skills and certifications to perform their tasks safely and efficiently.
- Foster a culture of safety, teamwork, and high performance among the SMP workforce.
Quality Assurance: - Conduct regular inspections and reviews of SMP installations to identify and address any quality issues promptly.
- Coordinate with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team to resolve non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with client representatives regarding technical queries, inspections and project scheduling
Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE): - Promote a strong safety culture and enforce HSE policies and procedures on-site.
- Conduct prestart meetings, toolbox talks, and job hazard analyses to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment.
- Assist in investigating incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement preventive measures to avoid their recurrence.
Communication and Coordination: - Provide regular progress reports on allocated construction activities, including updates on schedules and potential risks or delays.
- Maintain daily diaries. Track daily and weekly attendance and overall working hours, taking care to ensure weekly timesheet accuracy.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: | |
Qualification/ Certification: Australian recognised Trade Certificate in related Discipline: Welding, Pipefitting, Boilermaking or Mechanical Fitting Skills Requirement: - Minimum experience (typically 5+ years) in supervising SMP construction activities on EPC projects, including experience in the oil and gas, petrochemical, power, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Site based Piping, Pressure Vessel, Structural Steel, Module and/or Rotating Equipment Erection experience within Brownfields and Greenfields Construction Areas.
- Previous experience working within Live Hydrocarbon Process Plant (Highly Desirable)
- Strong planning and coordination skills with the ability to to effectively manage competing priorities.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse workforce.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- In-depth understanding of HSE regulations and the ability to enforce safety protocols effectively.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word,)
