About the job:
Kent is looking for an Environmental Specialist to be based in the UK.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the new Environmental Team in Kent and be a pivotal part of the growth and development of that team. We are looking for an Environmental Specialist who has good early years’ experience and is now ready to take the next step in their career. The role will be demanding and varied with a focus on technical delivery as well as involvement in project management and bidding. There will be opportunities to support team leads with the growth and development of the team. The ideal candidate will have a background in delivering environmental and sustainability assessments (e.g. EIAs) in the UK energy sector (low carbon, offshore wind, or oil and gas) and a strong desire to progress quickly. The role will report into the Environmental Technical Lead for Low Carbon. Support and guidance will be provided in technical delivery, project management, and business development as necessary.
Skills & Responsibilities:
- Delivery of environmental and sustainability assessments under the guidance of experienced technical leads.
- Conducting related environmental consultancy scopes for low carbon, offshore wind, or oil and gas sectors.
- Environmental support to engineering projects, including environmental and sustainability reviews, Best Available Techniques (BAT) studies, carbon accounting and ENVIDs.
- GIS support and data management to support environmental assessments.
- Technical report authorship and support quality assurance processes
- Input to cost estimates and bids for new work scopes.
- Project management, under the guidance of experienced Project Managers, to ensure studies and projects are delivered in compliance with agreed scope, budgets and schedules.
- Engagement with clients on projects and development of relationships with existing and future clients (with guidance).
- Support for the recruitment of new team members to match market growth.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
- Entry-level experience delivering EIAs or related environmental or sustainability assessments
- Degree(s) in a relevant subject matter
- Working towards Chartership of a relevant professional body (e.g. CEnv).
- Experience working in the UK Energy industry.
- Experience delivering work scopes to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
- Familiar with relevant legislation and industry standards and able to apply this knowledge.
- Working knowledge of GIS and other data management tools.
- Ability to prepare technical reports to a high standard
- An understanding of commercial challenges relevant to consultancy businesses.
- Experience in contributing to successful bids and proposals.
- Support the identification of opportunities to grow the business.
Communication:
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Comfortable explaining environmental requirements to internal teams and clients.
- Bid authoring awareness and skills.
- An understanding of the ways in which AI is likely to change the environmental sector.
- Ability to work in teams and contribute to a positive and enthusiastic culture.
