About the job:
Kent is looking for a CSU Automation Commissioning Engineer to be based in Trinidad.
This role will be part of the Project Commissioning and Startup Team and will report to the Project CSU Lead. They will be responsible for management & oversight of the preparation and execution of commissioning activities related to Instrumented and Automation scope working with the COE Automation Lead, to support CSU for the project.
The CSU Automation Engineer will ensure that the Distributed Control System (DCS) and Safety Instrumented System (SIS) are mechanically complete and ready to support static commissioning and dynamic commissioning of field devices and equipment at the project onshore facility. The scope includes integration of the project DCS and SIS systems into the existing brownfield facility and new offshore facility.
The candidate will have extensive experience of integrating automation systems on medium to large EPC projects and be able to provide input to plans, procedures, and schedules, identifying and implementing opportunities to maximize the benefits to the project.
Skills and Responsibilities:
- Steward the preparation, planning and execution of automation commissioning scopes for the onshore facilities including the brownfield integration.
- Review project Inspection and Testing Plans (ITP’s), Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) procedures and vendor packages and vendor supplied commissioning procedures to provide comments to client and vendor.
- Work with the engineering, operations, and suppliers to coordinate commissioning attendance of supplier FATs and to maximize the amount of commissioning scope that can be completed at the supplier facility. Attend DCS and SIS supplier FATs as required.
- Liaise with the Engineering Automation leads (Client & Engineering Contractor), the Center of Excellence (COE) Automation lead and the DCS and SIS automation contractors to ensure that engineering deliverables are planned to align with the overall project schedule. Manage and coordinate interfaces between the key stakeholders and other suppliers to ensure effective and timely communication.
- Develop project specific plans for automation and provide discipline technical input to commissioning procedures as directed by the project Commissioning and Startup (CSU) lead.
- Verify that control and shutdown narratives, cause & effects, safety instrumented functions, supplier functional descriptions and other project documentation are consistent. Highlight any gaps or other anomalies and raise technical queries if required.
- Provide discipline input to the commissioning & start-up schedule. Mark up system boundary drawings and allocate system and subsystems to automation equipment, including DCS, SIS and F&G cabinets and workstations etc. Assign inspection & test records (ITRs) to System Cabinets, Marshalling and junction boxes etc.
- Adhere to the Client change management system for instrumentation and automation general queries to record clarifications, queries, and minor changes.
- Provide oversight of mechanical completion of DCS, SIS and Instrumented and Automation systems.
- Lead the execution of Site Acceptance Tests and commissioning of the DCS, SIS and other automation systems and interrelated systems for seamless completion and handover to Client Project and Operations.
- Ensure that automation contractors and other automation systems suppliers are ready to support commissioning, including temporary workstations and any required licenses etc.
- Provide technical support to other disciplines during the commissioning execution phase. Ensure that the Alarm response manual, IO schedules or alarm & trip schedules are maintained during commissioning and are as-built as required.
- Provide oversight of any change or modification of work packs especially when applied to equipment that has already been commissioned. Encourage the MACs to provide details of outstanding modifications and any roadblocks. Work with engineering to resolve.
- Manage vendor punch items, coordinating with commissioning team on site resolution.
- Support commissioning to review all related test documentation, records, as-builts and related Commissioning and Handover documentation is completed correctly; identify and manage automation resource needs, tools, test equipment, spares; review lump sum contractor personnel competencies and work standards are maintained in the team, and any deficiencies are addressed; assist in resolution of systems completion related issues.
- Work closely with site commissioning team to properly handover the completed automation scope, including the correct versions of software, to the site Operations and Maintenance team.
- Actively seeks out opportunities to improve the enterprise through knowledge gained, lessons learned and implementation of same with a questioning attitude and drive for higher efficiency.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge / Qualification / Training / Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related work experience, 9 years in lieu of degree.
- Prior experience as an Automation Engineer or DCS/SIS Commissioning Lead/Specialist is desirable.
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of Emerson/Delta V DCS and Rockwell/Sensia SIS systems, Electrical system supervisory & control, condition monitoring and control of rotating machinery etc., and industrial communication interfaces connecting them. Knowledge and understanding of field instruments and fieldbus communications.
- Strong understanding of work planning, scheduling, and tracking.
- Possess a strong understanding of Inspection and Testing Program.
- Possess the ability to interface with all other project functions (IE. Engineering, Procurement, Project Controls, Commissioning, Safety, Quality, Subcontractors, Project Management including the Client) and develop an understanding of the entire project data realm.
- Possess the ability to understand the data, infer data relationships, build and run data validation queries to recognize anomalies and develop recovery plans.
- Experience with using Microsoft Office applications, Microsoft SharePoint, documentation management systems and Navisworks modeling software.
- Experience in Systems Completions database applications (Go-Technology)
- Experience with medium to large project Systems Completions processes.
- Experience with CSU / Turnover with medium larger complex projects.
Communication:
- Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
