About the job:
Kent is looking for a Commissioning Process; Mechanical Lead to be based in Houston, TX (and remotely). The role of Completions, Commissioning, and Start-Up Mechanical Lead for the Global “Center of Excellence” is responsible for functional support on all aspects of mechanical commissioning to Kent projects globally and acts as a visible lead in the matter of Mechanical Engineering for Commissioning projects. This requires to functionally lead Mechanical engineers working on Kent projects for implementation of best commissioning practices, standards, and processes.
Skills and Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate personnel HSSE and quality leadership, ownership and behaviour at all times.
  • Leads projects in the planning and coordination of commissioning activities, including development and review of systems completion deliverables.
  • Lead Kent Center of Excellence team in the performance of specialist Mechanical Commissioning, Completions and Start-up services, including being direct liaison with Kent functional management team.
  • Lead the execution of Center of Excellence workshops and deliverables, their timely production, the performance of safety, quality, and value optimization(s) during pre-FEED, FEED or execution, the management of change, as well as the performance of the Center of Excellence team.
  • Manage development of commissioning online toolkit containing all Completions, Commissioning, and Start-Up documentation including check sheets, commissioning man hour norm formulas, method statements, methodologies, procedures, and other commissioning templates in relation to a portfolio of Kent projects.
  • Manage the development of advanced commissioning tools inclusive but not limited to Smart Completions / Asset 55 / P6 integration to Smart Completions and Power Bi Reporting, Automated SCDB data validation tool, Automatic Work Pack Compilation tool, CSU Sequence tool, and Smart Plant Auditing Tools (where applicable).
  • Mentoring of Completions, Commissioning and Start-up Projects’ Commissioning leads.
  • Act as a Technical Authority for Commissioning Mechanical procedures and processes for Kent globally.
  • Stewardship of projects during the commissioning planning phases, setting of Commissioning and Start-Up planning teams as per Kent global practice document, implementation of Commissioning Readiness Plans, setting up of execution budgets, acting as project CSU sponsor and managing then signing off on final CSU mobilization readiness review.
  • Stewardship of projects during the commissioning execution as project sponsor, managing audits and rolling out our commissioning vision and commissioning tool kit to project leads.
  • Oversight Commissioning Engineers on the development of systems completion plans including but not limited to process system boundaries, sequence and priorities, P&IDs markups, procedures, schedules, plans, check sheets, fishbone diagrams, skylines, work packs, TCPS as required by Kent projects and Kent-bp Transformation Program.
  • Verify that commissioning activities are thoroughly planned and adequately staffed in order to support safe execution.
  • Develops Systems Completion Mechanical Procedures/Guidelines/Check sheet defining Mechanical Commissioning methodology for all Kent Projects and lead its implementation globally for Kent.
  • Subject matter expert and resource to the Project pertinent to Systems Completion activities.
  • Provides technical support, oversight and expert advice on the Commissioning and Start-up of plant systems.
  • Subject Matter Expert in the areas of:
  • Pre-FEED CSU Planning including CSU input into engineering modularization for early commissioning.
  • FEED CSU Planning including creating Commissioning strategies, cleaning and preservation strategies, definition of Division of Responsibilities for Completions, Commissioning, and Start-Up.
  • Management of creation of training programs for:
  • Commissioning Mechanical Engineers/Technicians.
  • Smart Completions
  • CSU general skillsets.
  • Smart Completions Data Base.
  • Operational Readiness.
  • Third Party Tools.
  • Subject matter expert and resource to the projects pertinent to Mechanical Systems Completion activities.
  • Using Kent data assist in the creation of a project level Benchmarking and Implementation; Project benchmarking involves capture of all data from past project types including LNG, Offshore, OPF, Petrochemical plants inclusive of all planning & execution data and analytic output from the benchmark data;
  • Process/Mechanical SME during Commissionability reviews / audits on project, compiles report detailing issues to be resolved, potential opportunities to be exploited to expedite commissioning. Report shall detail findings in respect to safety, cost, schedule, quality and strategy impacts. Commissionability audits shall be ongoing analysing different stages of project as it progress through its life cycle;
  • Stays up to date with advances in the Process/Mechanical & piping commissioning fields including but not limited to new flushing activities, new measurement & analytical techniques ensures that such advances have been thoroughly proven prior to implementation on projects;
  • Carrying internal project reviews during the planning phases as Process/Mechanical SME;
  • Organization and roll out of Process/Mechanical discipline workshops during planning phases acting as the Process/Mechanical interface point between project stakeholders such as operations, maintenance, and construction.
  • Apply lessons learned; participate in lessons learned reviews and provide input to close out report section upon completion of turnover.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • Mechanical or Process Engineering Degree and/or technical diploma and 15+ years of Project Completion, Operations and Mechanical commissioning and startup experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of CSU Mechanical planning during the FEED and detailed design phases
  • Established track record in creation and ownership of CSU budgets.
  • Established track record in supervision of Process/Mechanical large teams through, Mechanical Completion, Commissioning, Start Up and initial plant operations.
  • Proven strong technical skills in creation of commissioning and startup procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of Project Completion standards, specifications, codes, and appropriate safety criteria.
  • Strong understanding of Project Planning, Project execution, Engineering, Construction, Commissioning & Completion practices in the Process/Mechanical
  • Strong understanding of work planning, scheduling and tracking.
  • Required Exposure to Several Oil Company practices, processes, and expectations with respect to Systems Completion, Preservation, Commissioning and Start Up operations.

  • Read, write, and speak fluent English, especially as required to function effectively within a project team and to communicate with project management, contractors, and sub‑contractors.
