About the Job:
Kent is looking for a Radio Technician to support telecommunications and radio systems at Kearl. This is a site-based role, working within the plant telecom team and supporting both radio-specific work and broader telecom activities as required. This position operates on a 14/14 FIFO rotation from Edmonton or Calgary, working day shifts in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.

Responsibilities:
Two-Way Radio Installation & Maintenance
- Install, configure, and maintain two-way radio systems, including handheld, mobile, and base station equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on radio equipment and infrastructure.
- Support point-to-point radio installation, alignment, and system turn-up.
Testing & Troubleshooting
- Diagnose and resolve radio system issues, including signal loss, interference, and hardware/software faults.
- Perform radio programming, system configuration, and firmware updates.
- Troubleshoot P25 radio systems and ensure optimal system performance.
Site & Field Support
- Support walk-in clients with radio repairs and technical issues, as well as field-based service requests.
- Work collaboratively within a plant-based telecom team (typically ~10 personnel).
- Assist with broader telecom tasks as required to support site operations.
Stakeholder & Client Interface
- Interface internally with telecom and radio technicians, and externally with clients and subcontractors.
- Communicate technical issues, progress updates, and solutions clearly and professionally.
- Maintain strong working relationships in a site-based, customer-facing environment.
Documentation & Reporting
- Complete daily field reports, maintenance logs, and service documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of installations, programming, and repairs.
- Support project documentation and system handover requirements.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
- Hands-on experience as a Radio Technician or Telecom Technician, with a strong focus on two-way radio systems.
- Experience with radio installation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working with P25 radio systems (strongly preferred).
- Familiarity with Motorola radio products is considered an asset.
- Background in industrial or plant-based environments preferred.
- Diploma or certification in Electronics Engineering Technology or related field.
Communication
- Clear verbal and written English communication skills.
- Comfortable working in a client-facing, team-based environment.
