About the job:
Kent is looking for an Electrical Preservation Technician to support the team on a multi-year project based in Ingleside, Texas. This individual will focus on the preservation, inspection, and pre-commissioning of electrical equipment and systems, ensuring long-term integrity, reliability, and readiness for energization.
Skills and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities:
• Conduct preservation activities for electrical equipment, including switchgear, transformers, MCCs, UPS systems, motors, cable systems, and instrumentation panels.
• Perform insulation resistance testing (megger), continuity checks, and environmental condition monitoring for stored and installed electrical systems.
• Ensure proper application of space heaters, desiccants, nitrogen purging, and environmental controls to prevent moisture ingress and corrosion.
• Perform pre-commissioning inspections to verify installation meets electrical drawings, specifications, and preservation requirements.
• Maintain and monitor preservation logs for energized and non-energized equipment.
• Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve electrical preservation issues such as moisture intrusion, insulation degradation, or corrosion.
• Support loop checks, point-to-point verification, and functional testing activities as required.
• Ensure correct tagging, labeling, and protection of electrical systems during construction and preservation phases.
• Coordinate with commissioning, construction, and QA/QC teams to ensure system readiness.
• Document inspection results, test readings, and deficiencies, and report to the Preservation Lead.
• Assist with energization readiness reviews and turnover documentation.
• Ensure proper use of PPE and adherence to electrical safety standards (LOTO, arc flash, etc.).
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.
Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualification/Training/Certification:
• 5+ years of experience in electrical commissioning, construction, or preservation within Oil & Gas or heavy industrial projects.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, including LV/MV equipment, control systems, and instrumentation.
• Experience with electrical testing tools (megger, multimeter, etc.).
• Familiarity with preservation techniques for electrical equipment in harsh environments.
• Working knowledge of electrical codes and standards (e.g., NEC, IEC).
• Experience supporting commissioning/start-up activities is preferred.
Communication:
• Read, write, and speak fluent English, with the ability to communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.

• Strong attention to detail, especially in testing and documentation.
• Ability to work under pressure in remote, harsh environments.
• Proactive in identifying risks to equipment integrity and reliability.
