A New Standard in Autonomous Engineering: Kent’s AI Breakthrough
At Kent, we’ve reached a milestone in autonomous engineering delivery that’s redefining what’s possible – and what’s next – in the energy sector.
As part of our Autonomous Lifecycle Framework, we’ve now deployed AI agents capable of generating engineering drawings – specifically Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) – in a fraction of the time once required.
Where a P&ID traditionally takes upwards of 30/40 hours to complete, we can now produce the same deliverable in approximately five, thanks to AI trained on Kent’s own 100-year engineering experience.
This is more than just acceleration, it’s transformation. It enables our engineers to do more, focus deeper, and deliver faster. It’s another step in our digital evolution, and ongoing efforts will mature the entire auto generation of engineering deliverables.
Kent’s Lifecycle Autonomous Framework offers a structured, data-driven approach that spans the full asset lifecycle – from early concept studies through to fully unmanned operations. Key components include:
- Autonomous Studies: Scenario planning and simulations that accelerate early-phase decisions
- Autonomous Engineering: Automated generation of drawings, specifications, and simulation-based design
- Autonomous Design Review: AI-driven validations and comment sheet generation tied to scope, cost, and schedule
- Autonomous Construction & Completions: Automated construction procedures and digital handover validation
- Autonomous Operations: Autonomous process loop or fully unmanned facilities
This framework is powered by a combination of domain expertise, historical data, generative AI, machine learning, and agentic AI, ensuring a smarter, safer, and more cost-effective approach to asset delivery and operations.
But this isn’t about replacing people, it’s about unlocking their full potential. Our engineers remain firmly in control, validating outputs, conducting simulations, and applying the deep judgment that only experience can provide. The difference is what they no longer have to do: repetitive, manual drafting. Instead, they can focus on high-value design, decision-making, and client innovation.
For the industry, the benefits are equally clear:
- Faster turnaround times
- Significant cost savings
- Reduced risk of human error
- Repeatable quality across global project teams
While others are exploring the potential of AI in engineering, Kent is deploying it – responsibly, securely, and in ways that directly support both our people and our partners.
This is just one step on our broader roadmap toward autonomous project delivery, and it marks a defining moment where digital engineering moves from promise to performance.
