Our Organisational Context

Kent is a global engineering services company. In the UK, Kent Energies UK Ltd represents an Engineering Projects and Consultancy business with 415 employees (as of 5th April 2024) working across all energy markets. Our data for this year has been compared against our published report in 2024.

Our workforce gender balance is 23% women and 77% men, reflective of the engineering landscape in the UK, and this report examines gender pay gap across this population.

Kent Citizen Behaviours

We have launched Kent Citizen Behaviours. To truly thrive, we must step into the Citizen Story. We must see ourselves as Citizens - people who actively shape the world around us, who cultivate meaningful connections with our community and organisations, who can imagine a different and better life, who care and take responsibility, and who create opportunities for others to do the same. Our organisations must also recognise and treat people as Citizens. When they do, everything changes. By stepping into the Citizen Story and transforming our organisations, we can face myriad challenges: economic insecurity, ecological emergency, public health threats, political polarisation, and more. We will be able to build a future. We will be able to have a future.

STEM and volunteer days

All Employees are able to benefit from two volunteer days per year. We encourage our employees to use these to support external STEM activities within academia, but with a real focus on Schools. The key to increasing the future pool of women in engineering is to promote this within Schools, to get girls excited about engineering! The only way we can close our pay gap is by hiring more women, but we need more women to choose from. Our 22% gender split is representative of the market.

Family Leave Policies

We are continually reviewing our Family Leave policies and will continue to focus on closing the gap between what birthing and non-birthing parents receive. 19% of our women and 8% of men work part time in the UK. Our family leave policy covers the full timeline, whether you are joining Kent knowing you have a new family member on the way, or discovering this on your first day at work. This allows our employees to feel comfortable making career moves without worrying about whether or not they would get company maternity pay.

Flexible Work Schemes

We offer a fully flexible working offering through our Workplace Principles whereby we provide our Employees with the freedom to work from their place of choice, provided it works for the Project / Client, then it works for us. We recognise that we all have commitments outside of work, and the benefits of offering our Employees the flexibility supports them in being able to be present for things that are important outside of work, and allowing them to be able to do the two in tandem.

STEM Returners' Programme

We introduced a STEM Returners’ programme in 2024. This continues to support our efforts in recruiting, developing and retaining the best available talent, whilst supporting experienced STEM professionals to re-start their career or transfer their skills.

Identify & Dismantle Systematic Barriers to Equality

We have trained our People Managers in Inclusive Leadership and rolled out a number of Kent Signature People Development courses which supports us in setting the right tone across our Leaders and Employees around the behaviours expected.

What are we going to do?

In 2023, Kent launched the Kent Inclusion Blueprint which is designed to promote and create a fair and inclusive workplace for our people and ensures we are fulfilling our Sustainability commitments and aligning with our Global Inclusion and Belonging strategy. The approach begins at the foundation level, where policies and procedures for inclusion may be less developed and progresses through levels bronze, silver, gold and platinum. The UK business has achieved Silver status.
