Serica Energy

Bruce Platform

Offshore platform
Leading Offshore Safety in the North Sea
Location: North Sea, UK
Duration: 2024 - ongoing
Operator: Serica Energy
Scope: Process Engineering Support

Kent has a long-standing relationship with Serica Energy, delivering a range of process, structural, and asset integrity studies for their Bruce platform in the North Sea. Building on this experience, Kent has supported the Bruce Platform since September 2024 by providing dedicated process engineering expertise within the offshore operations team. The engagement was established to strengthen operational performance, support continuous improvement initiatives, and provide independent technical oversight across key asset activities.

Operating as part of the offshore leadership structure, Kent’s engineers provide dedicated process engineering support within day-to-day operations. Working closely with offshore teams, they help strengthen operational decision-making, improve risk awareness, and enhance understanding of critical safety barriers across the asset. The role combines offshore presence with access to Kent’s wider technical expertise, ensuring responsive and practical support aligned with operational priorities.

The ongoing engagement operates through a layered support model, with personnel supporting operations from the office prior to mobilising offshore. This approach maintains a continuous offshore presence while providing seamless support across operational priorities, planned activities, and evolving asset requirements.

Kent’s process engineering specialists work closely with offshore personnel to support safer operations, improve understanding of critical safety barriers, and enhance communication of operational risks and findings across the asset. By systematically reviewing learnings from shutdowns, start-ups and operational upsets, the team helps identify opportunities for improvement, embed operational changes, and challenge established ways of working where better outcomes can be achieved.

Scope:

  • Offshore process engineering support with a focus on process safety
  • Support for safe operating limit management and alarm management activities
  • Operational risk assessments and SIRP support
  • Assistance with management of change (MOC) processes and procedure updates
  • Process safety input into plant optimisation and operational monitoring
  • Independent verification and barrier health support
  • Access to wider Kent SME support as required

Project highlights:

  • Building and using tools to capture data on emerging issues during operations, allowing them to be systematically surfaced, investigated and where possible resolved.
  • Dedicated rotational offshore support integrated within the client’s operations team
  • Ongoing process safety leadership support since 2024
  • Improved visibility and understanding of process safety barriers
  • Supported proactive identification of operational improvement opportunities from upsets, abnormal operations, shutdowns and start-ups.
  • Enhanced communication of process safety risks and findings to key stakeholders
  • Delivered practical, day-to-day support to offshore operations and leadership teams
  • Help drive continuous improvement and a stronger process safety culture across the asset

Kent’s process engineering expertise helps operators improve operational performance, strengthen risk management, and embed continuous improvement into everyday activities across complex offshore assets.
