About the job:
Kent is looking for a Senior Telecom Engineer to support upcoming FEED, detailed engineering, and brownfield/greenfield scopes for client proposals and execution projects in the Edmonton region. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in industrial telecommunications systems, proven P.Eng experience in Alberta, and the ability to interface effectively with clients, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams. This role will support telecom system design, troubleshooting, integration, and field support for complex industrial facilities. We are also open to candidates based out of our Calgary office.

Responsibilities:
Telecom Engineering & Technical Support
• Develop and review telecom system design packages, including data, voice, fiber optic, wireless, PAGA and security systems
• Work as Telecom Lead Engineer on FEED, Detailed Engineering, and execution phases for brownfield and greenfield projects
• Perform system integration reviews and technical evaluations
• Provide troubleshooting support for telecom network and communication system issues
• Conduct field verifications, constructability reviews, and final walkdowns
System Design & Documentation
• Prepare and review telecom system specifications, datasheets, and scope of work documents
• Develop network architecture diagrams, block diagrams, cable routing drawings, fiber allocation and wiring termination diagrams
• Ensure documentation aligns with client standards and regulatory requirements
• Support telecom design calculations, including bandwidth, network load, and redundancy planning
Vendor & Contractor Interface
• Interface with vendors and sub-contractors for technical clarifications and equipment evaluations
• Review vendor documentation, technical submittals, FAT/SAT documentation, and test results
• Support procurement activities, including bid evaluations and technical recommendations
Reliability & Optimization
• Identify system vulnerabilities and propose redundancy or resilience improvements
• Support network upgrades, fiber expansions, and modernization initiatives
• Assist in cybersecurity coordination and telecom system hardening strategies
Reporting & Recordkeeping
• Maintain telecom engineering documentation and technical logs
• Contribute to weekly engineering progress reports and technical coordination meetings
Internal & External Interface
• Interface closely with client’s telecom, IT, Automation and operations departments
• Collaborate with electrical, instrumentation, automation, and mechanical engineering teams
• Provide technical input during project reviews and client presentations

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualifications/Training/Certification:
• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related discipline
• Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registration with APEGA
• 10+ years of telecom engineering experience in industrial or energy sector environments
• Experience with fiber optic systems, structured cabling, LAN/WAN networks, wireless systems, and industrial communication protocols
• Familiarity with industrial telecom systems, including CCTV, access control, PA/GA, radio systems, and network infrastructure
• Strong understanding of CSA codes, Alberta regulatory requirements, and industry standards
• FEED and brownfield/greenfield project experience required
Communication
• Excellent English communication skills (oral and written)
• Ability to clearly convey technical information to multidisciplinary teams and clients
• Strong client-facing presence
