About the job:
Kent is looking for a Senior Instrumentation and Controls Engineer to support upcoming FEED, detailed engineering, brownfield, and greenfield projects across multiple client programs in Canada. This role requires a highly experienced instrumentation professional with strong technical expertise in instrumentation and controls engineering, field execution support, and multidisciplinary coordination. The successful candidate will support the design, development, troubleshooting, and execution of instrumentation systems for industrial and energy sector facilities. This position will be based in our Calgary, Alberta office.

Responsibilities:
Instrumentation Engineering & Technical Support
• Provide senior-level instrumentation and control systems engineering support for projects and client initiatives
• Develop and review I&C deliverables, including instrument index, datasheets, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, hook-up drawings, control narratives/philosophy, Cause & Effect Diagrams, alarm list, Modbus Register.
• Support instrumentation sizing, selection, and specification activities for field instrumentation and control systems
• Ensure instrumentation designs comply with applicable client standards, codes, and industry best practices
• Provide expertise on engineering of control systems (DCS/PLC/ESD/SIS/FGS/MMS).
Engineering Leadership & Project Execution
• Support FEED and detailed engineering activities across multiple projects at Lead Engineer capacity
• Coordinate instrumentation engineering activities with process, electrical, mechanical, piping, and controls disciplines
• Participate in project planning, schedule development, and engineering progress tracking
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate engineers/designers
Procurement & Vendor Coordination
• Develop Material Requisitions (MRQ/MRP) and support Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE)
• Interface with vendors for technical clarifications, package reviews, and equipment selection
• Review Vendor Data and Documentation (VDDR) to ensure compliance with project requirements
• Support procurement and fabrication activities related to instrumentation packages and systems
Field Support, Commissioning & Troubleshooting
• Support construction, commissioning, start-up, and troubleshooting activities as required
• Participate in site visits, walkdowns, constructability reviews, and field verification activities
• Assist with resolving field technical queries and instrumentation-related issues
• Support loop checks, commissioning procedures, and system testing activities
Systems, Documentation & Quality
• Ensure instrumentation documentation is accurate, complete, and aligned with project execution requirements
• Support development and maintenance of engineering standards, specifications, and procedures
• Participate in quality reviews and interdisciplinary design checks
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and lessons learned activities
Reporting & Coordination
• Participate in engineering coordination meetings and project reviews
• Provide input into project progress reporting, forecasting, and deliverable tracking

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:
Knowledge/Qualifications/Training/Certifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related engineering discipline
• Active Professional Engineer (P.Eng) registration with APEGA required
• 10+ years of instrumentation engineering experience within oil & gas, energy, industrial, or EPC project environments
• Strong knowledge of instrumentation design, control systems, field instrumentation, and industrial communication systems
• Experience supporting FEED, detailed engineering, brownfield, and greenfield projects
• Familiarity with applicable industry standards including CSA, IEC, ISA, and API codes and standards
• Experience with SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI/InTools) and AutoCAD considered an asset
• Strong understanding of hazardous area classification and instrumentation installation practices
• Proven expertise on SIS would be an asset.
