Role scope
The Senior Instrumentation Designer will be responsible for developing and coordinating detailed instrumentation design deliverables for engineering projects. The role involves 3D modelling, preparation of layouts and installation drawings, clash detection, and ensuring compliance with project standards, client requirements, and quality parameters. The position also supports design team coordination to ensure timely and accurate project delivery.
Details / responsibilities
Instrumentation Design & Modelling
- Develop 3D models of instrumentation components including offline instruments, junction boxes (JB), air manifolds, local control panels, and associated accessories.
- Perform 3D model clash detection and coordinate with other disciplines to resolve clashes effectively.
- Execute Junction Box (JB) grouping and optimize instrument cabling arrangements.
- Prepare Instrumentation Location Plans in accordance with project specifications.
- Develop Fire & Gas Detection Layouts for process areas and facilities.
- Prepare Cable Routing Layouts and Cable Tray Routing Drawings.
- Produce Instrument Hook-up and Installation Drawings for field installation.
- Support preparation of as-built drawings and project documentation.
- Coordinate with process, mechanical, electrical, piping, and civil disciplines to ensure integrated design execution.
- Review and guide junior designers in preparing instrumentation drawings and models.
- Ensure deliverables comply with project standards, international codes, and client specifications.
- Manage preparation of engineering drawings, layouts, and diagrams within project timelines defined in the Detailed Work Program.
- Ensure deliverables meet quality, safety, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in design reviews, model reviews, and client discussions when required.
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
- Diploma Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 10–15 years of experience in instrumentation design within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, or EPC projects.
- Experience with 3D modelling tools such as SmartPlant 3D (SP3D), E3D, PDMS, or similar platforms.
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation layouts, cable routing, tray design, and hook-up drawings.
- Familiarity with international standards and project engineering practices.
- Ability to coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Communication:
- Excellent oral and written communication and skills.
- Working as per the Quality and Safety requirement & Standards.
- Cultural sensitivity and ability to work in a global, multicultural environment.
- Flexibility in working hours to accommodate different time zones.
