About the job:

Kent is looking for a Protection and Control Commissioning Technician for a Commissioning & Startup project in Port Arthur, TX.

This position is posted for anticipated upcoming projects. We are proactively identifying talent for upcoming work and qualified candidates may be contacted as project timelines are confirmed.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Able to read and understand electrical one/three-line diagrams and control schematics for LV/MV /HV electrical systems.
  • Able to read and understand protection relays settings, control logic and communication parameters files.
  • Able to read and understand different electrical systems control narratives.
  • Able to read and understand P&ID and Instrument I/O interface drawings.
  • Carries out electrical equipment protection and control installation inspections as per project specifications.
  • Experienced in Siemens, SEL, GE and A-B protection relays programming and function testing.
  • Experienced in using different primary and secondary injection test sets to test protection relays, current and potential transformers.
  • Experienced in function testing and troubleshooting of LV/MV/HV electrical systems control and protection as per control narrative, check sheets and commissioning procedures.
  • Experienced in verifying correct interface between LV/MV/HV electrical systems and different electrical management systems such as ECMS, PMS, etc.
  • Always demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and excellent HSE behaviors and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained.
  • Attend all mandatory training as specified in HSE and Permit to Work training schedule.
  • Ensure submit daily the check sheets records of testing carried out.
  • Ensure all team members are fully aware and understand all the projects’ safe working practices and adhere to them to maintain a SAFE working environment.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Minimum 5 years of Protection and Control commissioning experience.
  • Trained and familiar with System Completions database including B and C check sheets.
  • Knowledge of best practice and procedures in line with large-scale industrial projects.
  • Fully trained in all Safety related subjects outlined by Company such as Environment Concerns, Safe Operations, Emergency Response, JHA, PTW, MOC.
  • Fully trained in Incident & Injury Free and fully understand the expectations, duties, and responsibilities.
  • Prior experience completing Pre-Commissioning/Commissioning activities as per project procedures.
  • Full understanding of Permit to Work systems, able to sign for work permits, lead the Toolbox Talk and ensure the JHA is fully understood by technicians and trainees.

Communication:

  • Ability to communicate effectively across location, region and corporate to accomplish objectives.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Possess basic computer training such as Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Fully trained in Control Schematic and Single Line Diagram reading.
  • Fully trained in the use of hand tools, operation of test equipment.
  • Fully trained in Primary and Secondary injection test sets software.
  • Fully trained in Siemens, SEL, GE and A-B Relay settings software.

The Employee shall observe the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment and Quality rules of the Company; it’s clients and the governing authorities of the host country.
