FEED to Price contract from Circular Fuels Arboretum Ltd (CFAL) for their renewable and recycled dimethyl ether (rDME) plants
Location: UK
Duration: 2023-2024
Scope: FEED
Operator: Circular Fuels Arboretum Ltd (CFAL)

We were awarded a FEED to Price contract from Circular Fuels Arboretum Ltd (CFAL) for their renewable and recycled dimethyl ether (rDME) plants. The plants took non-recyclable residual waste from households and industry and convert it into rDME; a safe, cost-effective, and clean burning fuel. This renewable fuel behaves in the same way as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and can be stored in cylinders and used by those properties not connected to the UK’s national gas grid.

Each of CFAL’s future plants were at the same scale and produce c. 70,000 tons per annum of rDME using c. 350,000 tons per annum of incoming waste, equivalent to the yearly waste generated in a large city.

Having successfully completed the concept optimisation phase for CFAL, Kent continued to use its multidisciplinary engineering expertise out of its Woking, UK office and Mumbai, India office to take the plant design and provide a basis for an EPC bid for the complete delivery of the facility. This will reduce cost uncertainty at the build stage for the EPC contractor and CFAL as the plant owner.

The further development phase of the Arboretum project was adding Carbon Capture facilities. Kent was also responsible for delivering to CFAL the concept validation and Pre-FEED for CCS.
