About the job:

Kent is looking for a Multidiscipline Superintendent to lead and coordinate field commissioning activities for a project in Ingleside, Texas. The Multidiscipline Superintendent will oversee the safe and efficient execution of assigned pre-commissioning and commissioning work across mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and controls disciplines. The role will coordinate discipline supervisors, technicians, subcontractors, and vendor representatives to ensure systems are inspected, tested, and prepared for start-up and handover in accordance with approved procedures and project requirements.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate assigned multidisciplinary pre-commissioning and commissioning activities in accordance with approved procedures, specifications, and project schedules.
  • Direct discipline supervisors, technicians, craft personnel, and subcontractors, establishing clear work priorities and performance expectations.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through visible field leadership, toolbox talks, field inspections, hazard identification, and corrective action.
  • Verify that permits, isolations, lockout/tagout controls, risk assessments, and required authorizations are in place before work begins.
  • Coordinate simultaneous operations and interfaces between construction, commissioning, and operations teams, particularly where energized or pressurized systems are present.
  • Develop daily and weekly execution plans aligned with system completion priorities, commissioning milestones, and start-up requirements.
  • Confirm system readiness before testing, including mechanical completion status, punch-list restrictions, approved procedures, test equipment, and supporting documentation.
  • Allocate personnel, tools, calibrated test equipment, vendor support, and other resources required for commissioning activities.
  • Coordinate mechanical and piping activities such as cleaning, flushing, pressure and leak testing, equipment checks, lubrication, alignment verification, and reinstatement, as applicable.
  • Coordinate electrical activities such as equipment inspections, cable testing, protection checks, and controlled energization under approved procedures and authorized electrical personnel.
  • Coordinate instrumentation and controls activities such as calibration, loop checks, functional testing, and verification of alarms, interlocks, permissives, and shutdown functions.
  • Ensure testing is performed by appropriately qualified personnel and that results are recorded, reviewed, and accepted through the project’s completion process.
  • Coordinate vendor and specialist support for equipment testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning.
  • Identify and resolve field constraints, equipment deficiencies, and discipline interface issues, escalating technical matters to Engineering and the Commissioning Manager.
  • Ensure temporary connections, bypasses, overrides, and inhibited safety functions are authorized, recorded, controlled, and removed or restored before handover.
  • Monitor commissioning progress and productivity, report delays and outstanding issues, and implement agreed recovery actions.
  • Coordinate punch-list identification and closure, prioritizing items that affect safety, testing, energization, and start-up readiness.
  • Support start-up activities and operational testing under the direction of the Commissioning Manager and authorized Operations personnel.
  • Verify completion of test records, check sheets, redline drawings, reinstatement records, and system turnover documentation.
  • Maintain accurate daily reports covering activities completed, workforce levels, system status, test results, and outstanding constraints.
  • Coach field supervisors and commissioning personnel, promoting accountability, teamwork, and consistent execution practices.
  • Maintain effective housekeeping, equipment preservation, and environmental controls throughout assigned commissioning areas.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • Recognized trade qualification, technical diploma, or degree in a relevant engineering or technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant industrial experience, including at least five years in a supervisory role supporting pre-commissioning, commissioning, or start-up.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating multidisciplinary commissioning teams on oil and gas, petrochemical, LNG, energy, or comparable industrial projects.
  • Strong understanding of commissioning sequences and interfaces across mechanical, piping, electrical, instrumentation, and controls systems.
  • Ability to interpret piping and instrumentation diagrams, electrical single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, control narratives, cause-and-effect charts, vendor manuals, and commissioning procedures.
  • Practical knowledge of mechanical completion, system boundaries, readiness reviews, punch-list classification, and turnover processes.
  • Experience coordinating equipment checks, system testing, functional testing, troubleshooting, and start-up support.
  • Strong understanding of permit-to-work systems, hazardous energy isolation, lockout/tagout, stored energy hazards, and simultaneous operations.
  • Experience managing commissioning personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and competing system priorities.
  • Ability to monitor progress, identify constraints, and implement practical recovery plans.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with electronic system completion and commissioning management systems.
  • Relevant supervisory safety training and project-required certifications are preferred; required training must be completed before undertaking associated duties.

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.
  • Ability to communicate clear work instructions, system status, and safety requirements to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong coordination skills when working with clients, Operations, Construction, Engineering, subcontractors, and vendors.
  • Ability to prepare accurate reports and clearly communicate commissioning progress, technical issues, and readiness constraints.
