About the job:

Kent is seeking a Junior Surveyor to join their team in our Baytown, TX office.

As the Junior Surveyor, you will perform survey work of as part of a field survey crew including assisting Instrument Man with measuring in the field & maintaining equipment and cleaning up work site and vehicles. Receives technical direction from the both the Survey Party Chief and the Instrument Man when instructed by the Survey Party Chief in the field. Supervisor is the Survey Coordinator that reports to the C/S Department Manager.

Skills and Responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

To prepare for fieldwork, the Junior Surveyor must:

  • Participate in daily tool box meetings.
  • Supply Survey Party Chief Information to maintain inventory of supplies & equipment.
  • Daily inspect all tools before use. Tag all equipment if found in a condition not suitable for use or if in need of repair denote on tag and inform Survey Party Chief. Then remove from work vehicle.
  • Assist Instrument Man in testing Survey Instruments and Auto-level after returning from maintenance work or calibration.

During field work, the Junior Surveyor will:

  • Regulate work to ensure all site safety standards, work practices, and guidelines are adhered to.
  • Communicate any safety issues, regardless of the severity to Survey Party Chief.
  • Receive ExxonMobil Work Permit or approval to begin field survey work when requested to do so by the Survey Party Chief.
  • Communicate data collection issues to Survey Party Chief.
  • Responsible to make sufficient adherence to GL-10-07-0 Error Reduction Process.
  • Demonstrates continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service.
  • Walks job down with Survey Crew and Survey Requestor.
  • Assist Instrument Man in Operations of various survey-engineering instruments devices to measure distances and collect data; makes cross section, profile, location, topographic and construction layout surveys.
  • Assist in establishes lines, critical points and angles; digs ground using a shovel and other hand tools to search for and locate survey monuments and points. Sets, Cleans, and Paints all points used for survey purposes.
  • Frequently walks up and down steep slopes of ditches or on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas or construction sites; stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying of items up to 20 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds. Ascending/descending multiple flights of stairs, climbing in area that requires the use of fall protection.
  • Maintains field notes regarding backsight and foresight heights for each setup.

After field work, the Junior Surveyor will:

  • Clean work site up of all materials and equipment.
  • Organize all materials and equipment. Restock vehicle with supplies as required.
  • Clean work vehicle including emptying trash from work vehicle and taking vehicle to be washed and vacuumed.
  • Refuelling vehicles as required to not interfere with field work.
  • Sorting, filing, shelving and handling of documents, books, files, file drawers and related materials and equipment required for clerical operations.

In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:

  • High School Diploma, GED or Higher education is a plus.
  • 0-3 years of experience.
  • Integrate new tools and techniques into existing workflows to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
  • Base knowledge of Surveying.
  • Ability to complete required BASIC and Site-Specific safety training as necessary.
  • TWIC Required.

Communication:

  • Excellent command of the English language in both oral and written communication and skills.

Behavior/ Core Competencies:

  • Basic knowledge of engineering concepts and ability to apply knowledge to complex problems.
  • Computer skills and application of software programs.
  • Ability to interpret codes, regulations, and practices.
  • Ability to develop effective planning, project, and organizational skills.

The Employee shall observe the Health, Safety, Sustainability, Environment and Quality rules of the Company; it’s clients and the governing authorities of the host country.
