About the job:
Kent is looking for a Field Supervisor to be based in Baytown, TX and support regional project site(s).
To oversee the maintenance, installation, calibration, and repair of instrumentation systems that monitor and control critical oil and gas processes. To manage a team of technicians, ensure safety compliance, coordinate with other departments, and maintain the operational integrity of instrumentation systems. To ensure plant reliability, operational efficiency, and safety.
| Skills and Responsibilities: |
Responsibilities: - Supervise, coach, and lead a team of instrumentation technicians, foremen, and junior staff to ensure the efficient and safe execution of daily tasks.
- Develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor progress to ensure work is completed on time and within scope.
- Conduct performance reviews, provide mentorship, and ensure ongoing technical development of the team.
- Oversee the maintenance, calibration, and testing of instrumentation systems, including pressure, temperature, flow, and level sensors, control valves, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and DCS (Distributed Control Systems).
- Ensure all instrumentation systems are functioning efficiently to minimize downtime and maintain optimal production levels.
- Implement and oversee preventive maintenance programs to ensure the long-term reliability of instrumentation systems.
- Manage the installation and commissioning of new instrumentation systems and equipment, ensuring they are properly integrated into plant operations.
- Work with project engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure that installations meet industry standards and plant specifications.
- Verify that all new installations are calibrated and tested before being brought online.
- Ensure all instrumentation work is conducted in compliance with safety standards, industry regulations (e.g., ISA, IEC), and company policies.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the team by conducting regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard assessments.
- Ensure that instrumentation work in hazardous environments adheres to hazardous area classifications, explosion-proof equipment requirements, and proper grounding and bonding practices.
- Lead the team in diagnosing and resolving complex instrumentation issues, including equipment malfunctions and process control problems.
- Provide advanced technical support for troubleshooting and recommend corrective actions to minimize downtime and ensure safety.
- Coordinate emergency repairs and ensure minimal disruption to plant operations.
- Support the planning and execution of instrumentation projects, including system upgrades, modifications, and expansions.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other departments to ensure smooth execution of instrumentation-related tasks during plant turnarounds, shutdowns, and startups.
- Monitor project timelines, resource allocation, and budgets to ensure successful project completion.
- Maintain accurate records of all instrumentation activities, including calibration reports, maintenance logs, inspection reports, and repair documentation.
- Ensure that technical documentation, such as P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), wiring diagrams, and control schematics, are updated and accurately reflect the current plant configuration.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports on equipment performance, maintenance schedules, incidents, and team activities to upper management.
- Monitor inventory levels of instrumentation spare parts, tools, and materials, ensuring that adequate supplies are maintained.
- Work closely with the procurement team to order necessary equipment and materials for ongoing maintenance and repairs.
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate third-party services for specialized instrumentation repairs or upgrades.
- Identify areas for improvement in instrumentation practices, procedures, and equipment performance, and recommend solutions to enhance reliability and efficiency.
- Stay updated on the latest advancements in instrumentation technologies and industry best practices and introduce innovations where applicable.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. | Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience: | |
Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification: - Bachelor’s degree in Instrumentation or equivalent work experience, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Technical certifications in instrumentation (e.g., ISA Certified Control Systems Technician) or relevant technical diplomas are highly desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in instrumentation maintenance and calibration, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably in the oil & gas industry.
- In-depth knowledge of process instrumentation systems, including sensors, transmitters, control valves, analyzers, PLCs, and DCS systems.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficiency in the calibration, troubleshooting, and repair of complex instrumentation systems.
- Strong understanding of industry standards (IEC, ISA) and safety regulations for working in hazardous environments.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a team of technicians, ensuring adherence to safety standards and technical excellence.
- Ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Comprehensive understanding of safety practices and protocols in the oil & gas industry, including hazardous area classifications, explosion-proof equipment, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Project work experience within the ExxonMobil Baytown Complexes (BTRF, BTCP, BOP, & MBPP) and knowledge of the PSMS system a plus for this role.
