About the job:

Kent is looking to hire a Lead Civil and Structural Engineer based in the UK at Exxons Fawley Refinery, near Southampton. The Lead Civil and Structural Engineer will be responsible for managing the Field C&S scope at site and supporting the fabrication yard and will report to the Alliance Engineering Manager.


The Lead Engineer will be responsible for providing responses to Technical Queries or Requests for information raised by at site or the fabrication yard. The Lead engineer will identify to the Engineering Manager if additional resources are required to complete work being performed at site and the fabrication yard, they will coordinate with the engineering team in Mumbai to achieve this. They will ensure that the construction and structural fabrication is completed as per the engineering design and in compliance with relevant Company and International engineering standards.


The Lead Engineer will participate in walk downs related to Civil Structural systems and will ensure that any engineering related punch items are correctly addressed and closed out.


The Senior Structural engineer will ensure that all the Civil and Structural related documentation required for the project handover are correct and complete.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Civil and Structural engineering scope at site and at the Module Fabrication Yard in China
  • Perform the review and approval of Civil and Structural engineering documents produced by the Civil engineering team and those submitted by the Fabrication Contractor.
  • Coordinate and work with High Value Engineering Centre to manage workload.
  • Identify and prepare early warnings notices in conjunction with the Engineering Manager Engineer to changes to the Civil and Structural scope.
  • Preparing responses to Technical Queries (TQ) or Request for Information (RFI) from the Module fabrication yard and the site Construction team. Ensure timely response and highlighting cost or schedule impacts are captured and reported.
  • Support project execution and ensure compliance with Kent Group IMS Procedures, site environmental policies and Company and International standards & regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of field inspection check-sheets to capture field data.
  • Participate in the system completion activities for Civil and structural systems including walk-downs and generation of punch items.
  • Manage the closure of Civil and structural engineering punch items.
  • Support QAQC and Document Control department in the preparation and turnover of Civil and Structural project deliverables.
  • Assist and support in effective mentorship/coaching/guidance for Kent employees including the development and roll-out of competency training modules.
  • Assume a Safety Leadership role within Kent site team, performing Risk Assessments, Site Safety Audits, Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) reviews and hazard card submittals.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer is an advantage.
  • Good English, written and verbal.
  • Project reporting skills, sound business knowledge and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to establish project key performance indicators.
  • Experience with Hexagon SP3D modelling software, Stad, Tekla, Navis works and Audo Cad.
  • Technically experienced in preparation and approval of Civil and Structural deliverables such as Connection details, structural layouts, structural specifications, structural related datasheets, general arrangements drawings, structural calculations, foundation calculation, drawing and bar bending schedules.
  • Knowledge of Safety Regulations and Procedures for oilfield related facilities.
  • Experience in utilizing International standards, National Regulators, Codes and Technical Specification.
  • Excellent in oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of packages.
  • Teamwork, initiative, self-motivated, good and clear communication skills.
  • Preferable with experience in Field Engineering and Module fabrication.
