About the job:

The role of principal Engineer/Designer/Technologist is created to enhance the Plant Layout and piping department by further development of work processes and skill levels in each respective area of the discipline and help provide direction for the future.

The individuals who perform the principal position will perform a part time supporting role to the department employees, Piping Leads, Department Manager and GDL while maintaining their current project responsibilities.

Your responsibilities:

  • Proposal preparation – To provide direction and consistency, while maintaining the competitive nature of the proposal.
  • Work Planning – Support the Project Discipline Lead and/or Department Manager in preliminary and detailed work planning activities to establish required staffing levels and required skill sets.
  • Staffing – Participate in the project staffing requirements by either assignment of existing personnel, sourcing new candidates and interviewing.
  • Staffing – Participate in the development of existing regular staff employees.
  • Staffing – Participate in employee objective setting and performance evaluations.
  • Training – Assist in highlighting training needs; participate in planning of training sessions and supply training as required.
  • Project support – Provide additional technical and administrative support to the Project Discipline Leads on an ongoing basis.
  • Technical Criteria – Participate in the review of all technical criteria prepared for a given project to provide technical input and consistency.
  • Technical Reviews – Participate or initiate technical reviews based on project schedule or in areas on concern.
  • Mediation – Assist project discipline personnel with any possible technical disagreement.
  • Model Reviews – Provide “on call” support to project document/model reviews based on discussion with Project Lead.
  • Procedures/Work processes – Participate in the update of all current discipline procedures, standards and specifications. Highlight areas for additional discipline documents.
  • Workshare – Support and assist the development of workshare activities and processes within H&C.
  • Job Report – Provide input as needed to end of job report and lessons learned.

Your knowledge/skills, education, and experience:

  • Completed technologist diploma in a related discipline

Skills Requirement:

  • Minimum 20 years of experience in overall Piping Design
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in Plant Layout/Plot Development
  • Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience
  • Ability to demonstrate and explain complex technical issues
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a multidisciplinary project environment
  • Ability to think of possible explanations or alternatives to a situation and anticipate potential obstacles
  • Ability to develop new ideas that are not restricted by traditional/organizational boundaries
